In my opinion the majority of articles in Exposed appear to be paid-for advertorials... not saying it was, just that I'm always weary as it always seems to be the newly opened/developed places that get reviewed...

Went to Cafe Guru last night (Sunday) It was a bit quiet.

There was only one other couple in the restaurant, however the front of house man was very charming and attended the table with the same enthusiasm as if it was Saturday night and the place was full. It is so refreshing to go to an Indian restaurant which has stepped out of the '10 pints and a curry' market.
A good wine list was presented to us, we chose a light and summery semilon chardonay. Starters was a very well presented aloo gobi and lamb kebbab followed by vegitable madras and lamb madras with rice and garlic nan bread.
It was stunning.
Excellent presentation, stunning contemporary surroundings, toilets so clean you could eat in them!, freindly service.
The waiter even asked us how we knew about them, had we been when it used to be the Bombay etc.
Our bill came to £39 but the wine was £12.
Great food - highly recommended.
We'll be making this place a regular stop on Sunday nights.

You are spot on with that Geoff. I think the going rate is £1500 for a double page spread and a full page ad.

Visited Cafe Guru for the second time last night.
Monday's are very much like Sunday's for dinning out in sheffield don't you think? Dead !

Again there was one other couple in the entire restaurant from 8pm until we left.

This is a cracking Indian, set in a contemporary environment.

I'm sure curry lovers would want to keep this place from closing and lets face it a good weekend crowd doesn't keep a place from closing.

I urge all Indian food aficionado's to frequent this place so it remains with us forever more. :help:

GO NOW ! (midweek)

I'm definitely going to make this my next port of call. It got an excellent write-up in this week's Sheffield Telegraph (9/6).

They do a chicken breast cooked in a bag with spinach and garlic puree. Now that sounds tempting. Also, a decent wine list and, according to the review, the place closes before the pubs are turned out.

Shall let you know what I thought in due course.

Do they do vegetarian food? I just don't mean Veggie curries but things like Dal (spelling?!)?

I love Indian food - my parents lived in North India for 10yrs before I was born and mum used to cook us loads of Indian dishes that weren't curry, but I've yet to find somewhere that serves anything except!

Yes they do tarka dahl, sagg aloo, bombay potatoes etc as well as all versions of vegi curries such as madras, rogan josh etc.

The traka Dahl is beautiful, very creamy, Yum !
You can order these as side dishes as well.

My other half is vegetarian and we have been three times now.
She loves it.

As you will see from my previous posts I was urging people to go on Sundays to keep the place buzzing on all nights.

I am pleased to say that we went last Sunday and the restaurant was half full, which was just the right atmosphere for an intimate meal but with the hum of conversation about the place.

Again, what an excellent meal, I thoroughly enjoy this place.

Go immediately !

Well i wanted this restaurant to survive and it is now doing so well that we were asked if we had reservations on sunday night!

There used to be me and the missus in there on a Sunday now its full.

I heard from an ex colleauge of mine that they have opened on in Leeds as well.

Long live the Guru.

Yay!

I've been twice, spent an absolute fortune but not regretted doing so as the food is fantastic and the wine and champage list impressive.

The staff are attentive, the place clean and in all honesty, I would take any client or friend there (as of course, I have done).

I love it.

Went with my OH and friends about six weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The meal was fantastic and the staff were exceptionally good, attentive and friendly but not overly so. I would recommend Cafe Guru.

Same in Westside, all the places that pay for advertising in the mag get good reviews. Strange that.....

To be fair - I dont think they make any secret of it.

The food is very good but personally I think it's very expensive for what it is. I guess you pay for the trendy 'packaging'.
