I heard you can only buy Henderson's Relish in Sheffield. If so, where?

And what does it taste like? There seem to be a cult following!

Morrisons always stock it. Very similar to Worcetser Sauce. Sometimes you get special bottles like the Millenium Silver bottle and the Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United bottles.

Dont know about a Pulp one, but Richard Hawley had some special bottles made to promote his last album, you could only get them if you atended the album launch party, AFAIK. I know he wanted to have said party in the hendos factory, but dont know if he managed to pull that off.

my aunty used to live in Africa and had Hendersons on everything, chips, cheese sandwiches..... and she used to take cases of it back with her to Africa...furthest north you can buy it is Leeds

It tastes nothing like Worcetser Sauce in my opinion. People just tend to say that because it looks the same.

It annoys me when people say it's like Worcester Sauce - it ISN'T - as JBlaze says - it is just packaged in a very similar bottle. Hendersons is sweeter and sooooo much nicer!

I have some french students staying at the moment and we got them to taste it last night - hopefully they will want to take a few bottles back with them as our Spanish students did last year...they loved it and had it on just about everything! (MsB Hendersons Relish European Ambassador!!! :clap: )

You can't have pie or casserole without it ... and my daughter even puts it on chips .. always takes some back dahn sarf with her ...

the other major benefit of Henderson's is that everyone call spell its name!

Sorry Msbehaving. I didn't mean it tastes like WS. It just looks like it and serves a similar purpose. Hendersons is of course far superior.

I agree most supermarkets probably sell it. I was just trying to be helpfull by specifying one that I new definitely stock it.

If you're in the city centre it might be easier to go into Castle Market, seems to be about the cheapest place to get it too (maybe apart from the factory itself, buts it a bit smelly walking past there sometimes especially in the summer - small price to pay for more wonderful hendersons tho)

I take Hendersons to north Wales when I visit friends .The first time I took it I had to explain to their not so bright friend that it had no alcoholic content as she raised the bottle to her lips.

You can get it in Wolverhampton cos my missus has an addiction to it and wouldn't leave Sheffield unless she could get it elsewhere...??? personally I don't see the big attraction...it's not a case of it being a Sheffield great, its just that no-one else in the country wants the crap...

Oh dear, this man needs help! Relish is the greatest sauce ever. I'm getting a newcastle fanbase going, my house mates love it and have used up most of the bloody bottle!

Relish is great you can get it from supermarkets and shillitos on shiregreen.

I'm pretty sure the butchers/pork shop on the corner of Northfield road and School road sell it...

Well I am obviously out-voted...maybe I should try it again and see if it does anything for me, not exactly taking off like ketchup and HP though is it....and how long has it been established...? says 100yrs on the bottle...and still struggles to get outta Sheffield....hhhhhhhhmmmmmmmm, I think that says it all really

considering the size of the factory have they ever eventried to launch it outside sheffield?

I seem to remember a while back that there was a "scare" that the factory was shutting down and so stock would be depleted.

I think we still have several bottle left from that shopping trip actually...

they used to seell it up near here in middlesbrough in a supermarket, sainsburys i think, not sure, but they took it off the shelves :(

It's not a big factory and it's not mass produced, therefore there is a limit on how many places out of Sheffield they can supply.

But because of this it is a high quality product and possibly even a bit exclusive.

I guess that must be true. I have been a fan of the stuff as far back as I can remember and while other products have reduced in the quality this one certainly tastes as good as it always did (at least in my 20 odd years of using it).

Great News..In the North East of England (where I now live) the local "Weigh in shop" (you know the the one that sells stuff in barrels and you help yourself) well they now sell Hendersons Relish ..and yesterday I bought 6 bottles at a £1 each..and for our Sunday dinner we've had a "home made meat and tatey pie" and I have Now declared that Sunday the 9th of October In the North East will be now be known as "Sheffield Day".

Ah I love the stuff! It makes me proud to be a sheffielder!

If I moved abroad I'd definatley take loads of crates over!

I have japanese students stay over with me whilst they learn english. I now have to send 16 bottles a quarter over to Japan, which they send me the funds for.

Yes.
All foodstuffs which are imported to the land of the free have to have a license or something to prove they are safe and known brand and not poison or something illegal. And Hendersons ( or the export people thisissheffield.com or whatever they are called ) isn't a big enough exporter to afford to pay for this. So that's the reason.

That actually does make sense.

I was wondering if we were still at war with them or something, kind've like Berwick Upon Tweed still being at War with Russia (they never signed a peace agreement, so the war still stands lol).

I'm off to America next month so I just want to check I'm not going to be arrested for being a War Criminal or something...

I'm thinking of making up a henderson's gift pack for xmas for all my family back up in the north east - for such a cult item do you think that Hendersons might already do such a thing?
