Did anyone fall victim to the prank that Crystal Peaks management played on the shoppers on Friday?

Sometime during the morning they sounded the fire alarms and anouncements told all shoppers to leave the centre. Most did, but were bemused that the store staff were not leaving and just watching.

After about five minutes outside the staff blew whistles and invited everyone back in and announced "April Fool".

Many shoppers were very angry and some left in disgust.

I'm not surprised.

I'm sure some irate shoppers left through the fire exits...with a trolleyload of unpaid-for shopping :heyhey:

haha, I remember when the fire alarms went off in Meadowhall 2 xmas's ago. I work in Argos and instead of customers evacuating, they all plunged forward to the collection point to claim their goods.

i was in the peaks on friday when the alarms kicked off and it wasnt an april fools joke at all. there was a false alarm in specsavers and the reason the alarms keep sounding is that the shop has to be checked before any one can silence the alarms .and as for the staff with whistles not sure where you got that one from mate but id get a new informant

i know it doesnt sound very good but if the fire alarms went off in meadowhall now ,people wouldn't be dashing out as fast as they could, but going to find empty shops and taking as much stuff as they could carry without paying for them.lol.These people need to get there priorities right !!! :loopy: :loopy: :loopy:

If it was an 'april fool' joke, I don't think it was a very sensible one - safety wise.. Speaking as a legal student and a Fire Marshall and First Aider for the company I work for.

Some people leave premises sensibly, others don't bother, whilst some freak out, run and can cause accidents. What would the management have done if some child had been pushed (accidently of course) down an escelator or stairs and become injured. Or a pregnant woman freak out and go into early labour.

I know these are extremes, but accidents happen.

But as someone said, it was not a joke - personally speaking I don't think such a joke would have been permitted.

I experienced something similar when I worked at Morrisons years ago. I had been asked to help evacuate customers from the store on a planned fire drill, and I approached one old guy who was hovering about with his trolley near the checkouts. The customers didn't know it was a drill. When I asked him to leave the store, he said he wasn't going anywhere until he got the pound out of his trolley.

I just left him to it. He soon followed! :D

Somehow i dont think they would carry off setting the fire alarms of, there not alowed to do things like that, if the alarms are acctivated its either a tester or has been set of by detecters, but if they are doing testers they have to get permision of local Fire service. My mates mum works 4 the management team and i asked her about this and she said No. if you want any infotmation it ring them up 0114 251 0457

Well Peaks had fun this Easter.

We went on Easter Saturday to avoid meadowhall.

Got to Peaks parked near mc'ds, to find a security guard at the bottom of the ecalators.

POWER CUT!!!

no lifts, escalators and most of the shops closed.

Some had the shutters down but most had to post staff on the doors as the couldn't get the shutters down due to them being electric.

Only Mc'd, the pizza place, Iceland and Sainsburys were open becuase they have their own back up generators.

We popped in Iceland to get some drinks and overheard people saying. "we'll get our shopping then the power be back and we can look round the shops", saying this as they were filling their trollys with FROZEN food. :loopy:

So stupid to not remember this will be defrosted by the time they get back to the car with the rest of the shopping lol:loopy:

Was this what was up on easter Monday too? We were headed to Pizza Hut at the retail park for dinner, decided to go to Deep Pan in Peaks to avoid the queues. No escalators, shops all looking half shut (fair enough if they were shut, it's a bank holiday after all) but there were staff in, but just hanging around at the doors etc. And when we got to deep Pan, there were people inside eating, but it was shut due to "Unforeseen circumstances"
