I have 2 HD's in my comp, one i use for software and everything, the other i use to store my games. The one with my games on is the one im having major problems with. It hardly EVER detects when i boot up the computer. It tries to detect both HD's for a minute or so on the first screen, detects the master but not the slave. Ive tried switching power cables, jumpers, the IDE cables, EVERYTHING i can.
Is this drive just dying? Its really a problem for me cos the games i have on it still appear to be installed on the computer and i cant UNinstall them without the drive being detected, nor can i just install them on my first drive.

PLEASE help. Thanks

Perhaps its not the drive at fault but the controller? Do you have another machine you could try it in to eliminate one or t'other?

I don't think it could be the controller, if the master disk is always being detected and both disks are on the same controller.

Yes, I agree with this tip. Try this disk in another machine

If you only have a single machine, try the dodgy disk as a single master drive. You may not be able to boot from it, but the BIOS should detect it regardless.

If you go to Seagate's website, download their SEATOOLS software. You burn it to a CD and boot from it and it performs a full diagnostic of your drives.

ok ill try setting it up as master and get back to you. what if it works as master though? it still isnt working in its current position and i need it to so i can play or remove my games. im supposed to be playing in an online clan match right now!!

:: EDIT ::

Ive tried setting it to master and it still doesnt work. I think its died on me.

How do i remove traces of installed programs that were on that drive so that i can install them on my master?

You could try a program like TweakNow reg cleaner which will remove entries from you registry that point to invalid file paths. That ought to help.

I suggest you attempt to reinstall the programs.

Most new software prepared with an InstallShield wizard or Windows Installer technology should give you the option to remove, modify or reinstall the programs to another disk.
