Went last night to see the Wombats was expecting a decent gig with liking the sound of a few of their songs. I don't know whether it was just me but they had three good songs the rest were just garbage. I think this shows the poor state indie music is in at the moment when The Wombats are on the best bands of this year.

They're definetly one of those bands which sound better on cd for many of their songs it just seemed as though he was shouting. The bit when he said after three everyone shout 'I'm having the time of my life' was an utter joke. If thats the best time some people ther have had in their lives they must be having pretty miserable ones.

What did everyone else reckon?

My friend went and he thought it was a quite good gig. I don't know any of their stuff, but he has long hair so his gig opinion usually counts.
He did say that they weren't as good as The Courteneers though (and apparently The 'Neers are going to be the next Oasis don't y'know).

I reckon indie is decent if you know where to look. The Wombats aren't where to look. I think they're average at best.

I think I need my eyes testing. I read the thread title and thought the Wombles had made a comeback

Would you advise me where to look please, I'll have a listen to your recommendations if there anything new. As Phil said the Courteneers are good. I've listened to the album already and my and a mate just went to Jack's on my dinner and got tickets for their gig at the academy in October, that should eb a good one.

Plenty more to go to before then though. Pigeon Detectives at the Leadmill next Wednesday should be a good one, there better than Wombats.

They are pretty well known, but I'd advise you to listen to some Shins. I've really got into them. Look for their album, Wincing the Night Away. If you like them, I'll give you a few more recommendations.

If you don't, you might be looking for different stuff to me!

I also like shoegaze a lot. It depends what sort of indie you like! Here's some Asobi Seksu, a nice Japanese band.

Pigeon Detectives aren't great live, I found their gig a bit dull in places. Only so many times the lead singer can jump in the air befpre the start of the song I saw them 2 weeks ago, the Twang supported and they were much more impressive!
