HELP!! I've just found out I've got a job interview at a private hospital, I have no idea what to wear! The last time I had a intrview was about 4 years ago and am definately not wearing what I wore last time.
I usually dress quite casual so I dan't have any smart clothes that would be suitable to wear. I'm fairly young-ish so would like something quite fashionable and ideally I would like something that I would wear again...Any ideas? Employers...what do you like to see interview-ees dress in?:)

I think a suit always goes down well with employers.;)

treat yourself to a new suit, even if its a £35 one from tesco's.
and polish your shoes!
if your a girl, sorry, i cant help. whatever you were will be fine (thats what i tell the mrs every time i'm waiting for her to sort her self out).

Something that looks smart and is comfortable.
You dont want to look like your off out on the town nor a sket, neither to you want to have on a pair of high heels that you might fall over in and look daft :hihi:
Trousers/knee length or longer skirt, and a nice shirt/blouse.

Go to primark, get a smart skirt or trousers, plus a blouse and a smart jacket, all for prob £20. As it's nice weather, don't feel you have to wear a suit jacket, but definitely wear a fitted type jacket.

good luck!

never go casual to an interview, look like you have made the effort. make sure it's smart clean and polished. nothing too short or low cut, the above is what i would suggest too. and good luck :)

It is a question of judgement. I would say, never wear anything that is liable to intimidate the interviewer....especially if the interview is with a small company. For example an independent bookie or electrical retailer.

Depends partly on what sort of job it is. I'm a woman and used to interview for admin jobs in education and would say as long as its smart it doesn't have to be a suit. No short skirts, low cut necklines or extremely high heels. Just relatively conservative but maybe with a little flair? Even a plain skirt with a blouse or top would be OK without a jacket, especially in hot weather. You could dress it up with one of those nice flimsy scarves which are in fashion - saw them in Matalan last week - and I echo the sentiment to make sure that whatever shoes you use try to ensure they are neat and well cleaned. Just make sure you feel comfortable in the clothes and try to relax! May be worth wearing them a couple of times before, even if it is to go to the shops, so you get used to them and they feel less new.

Good luck - hope you get the job.

Male or female you can't go wrong with a suit for an interview - though I might suggest not wearing a skirt suit if your male!

Read a golden rule years ago which said something like..

go slightly smarter than you would if you had to start work there and then

(because then you can and not look out of place)

I know where evil Dr Neil is coming from but not everyone can afford a suit and/or a woman may not feel well dressed in a cheap one! Far better to wear a better quality skirt/trouser and top combo I would think. Of course if you are going for the position of a consultant or something then a suit would probably be better ( or at least expected) and you can probably afford a decent one anyway!

I'm totally agree with mercutio......It probably depends on what kind of job you want to get.....I've got the same problem a few weeks ago, getting an interview with a recruitment consultant while i haven't get it a long time ago...Then i sought an appropiate wearing and was almost in panic:D

I am working as a technical designer in an engineering company, then we use to wear casual clothes as jeans, tee shirt or shirt but never a suit of course!!!

Then i met the consultant dressed in jean, but with stylish shoes and a black jacket feutre.... better dressed than i use to, so i felt well and easy and it's surely the most important thing....It's to be YOU....probably dresed better than the other day but with a certain flair..... A great clothe which you don't wear well should make a bad feeling to your talker don't you think?

Hope you get the job too....wish you luck:wink:

I once wore a suit for an interview at PDSA... I felt like a right plonker - it hardly gave the right impression!

I am female and I wear a fitted suit or atleast trousers and a shirt for all interviews. I believe that this gives a good first impression and makes you look professional.

I went to matalan and bought jacket, trousers and shirt for £27 looks good, will last a good few years and can, if i wanted, wear it out and about as a jeans jacket combo or trousers and top combo. I think i am just going to keep it as my interview suit though as I havent got any smart ones!!

I interviewed a girl last year who turned up looking smart enough I suppose but was wearing short shorts and fishnets with a low cut top. I think she was expecting a man to interview her and to be honest she wasn't offered the position (not just because of this but she also had a picture of herself on her CV stood in front of a double bed - and she was rather thick which is why I didn't give her the job)

I always expect interviewees to be clean, smart but not ness in a suit.

Well, Yan has posted this thread about one month ago, and I guess she has interviewed by now, but we still haven't heard anything from her about it yet....it should be interesting to have her feelings whether her interview is over of course

As long as the skirt is no shorter than knee length and blouse not too revealing then i think you'll be fine. And make sure you feel comfortable in what you wear, of course.
