I wonder if anyone can help me .... my boss at work would like to set up a number where employees (of which there are over 600) can text with questions, comments, etc., but rather than these coming through to a mobile phone, he would like to pick them up by email or read them on a pc screen in some way.
This can obviously be done (I'm thinking of when people text in to radio stations etc.) but does anyone know how we would set up such a system (ideally without paying too much, if anything!) We wouldn't need a short 5-digit text number like the I've seen some programmes use, a normal mobile-type number would be fine.
Thanks in advance.

I use bulksms.co.uk for email to sms for work. I think they do sms to email too. might be worth a look. also I think a company called itagg do similar services.

For work we purchased a phone number that allowed SMS to text, it cost about £200 a year. Because I run a very large service, I wrote an XML link to connect to their service and retrieve the messages. But a lot of them will provide some software to do it for you.

I'm sure there are cheaper methods, it depends how sophisticated you want.

There's loads of providers. Do a search for "Bulk SMS" and "2 Way SMS" on google.
