View Full Version : Hypothetical question about regeneration on Heroes

Me an Mr Peaches were talking about the episode where Claire cuts off her toe and it regenerates.

I then said, what if she cut off her head (Sick minded that I am :hihi: ) Would the body regrow below the head, or would the head regrow above the body, or possibly both?

She can obviously survive oxygen deprivation because in one episode in the last series she was dead for some time in a morgue, and I'm sure in one episode she broke her neck, so electricity from the brain via the spinal chord would have been disrupted.

Do I really have too much time on my hands?

If the spinal cord is cut, she dies. Remember the first series where she had been in an accident and died and the coroner took out a piece of wood from her neck then she regenerated. So if her head was cut off then she would be dead!

See I thought of that. But the only reason she didn't come round was because of the wood being stuck, once it was removed she regenerated and came back to life again

So if her head was seperated then it would still be severed and wouldn't come back together, if they were next to each other it might be different but if they were in different places it wouldn't!

I'm half tempted to ask the script writers :hihi:

Adam has implied that it would be final:

From reading that, it implies it would be final for Adam, not Claire though

I don’t think it would make a difference after all her head and body were still attached and she did not regenerate?

But if her body died, the head could possibly still regenerate and produce another body?

No, never heard of it?

i just typed 2 paragraphs about it only to realise

a) it doesn't really have owt to do with this and

b) i'd ruin the film for anyone who would like to see it

From how it was explained in the episode with the piece of wood stuck in the base of her neck and the the same scenario with Peter and the glass it would seem that the area of weakness is the very top of the spinal cord which if disrupted would cause a cease of regeneration abilities. So if this theory is extended I would guess that the c1 and c2 vertibrae and the nerves they house are the source of the regeneration abilities so the severing at this point would render her unable to heal until they were reconnected.

Ah yes but, if it was severed below, would a new body regenerate, thats my question

If the theory follows and she was severed below this point a new body would grow. Severing above it a new head would.

I'm going cross eyed thinking about this now :hihi:

Yes, i got my body and head mixed up there for a while. We really do watch too much TV!!!

The Adam explanation theory could be unique to him and Claire could be a step on from him. I wouldn't be surprised if they played this scenario out in the show to do a cliff hanger 'is Claire dead or not' episode. The americans have been complaining that the story has been too slow though and there's been furious re-writing which shows in the last two episodes of this half season. Most disappointing!

I've asked the question to the writer, we'll see what comes of it. ITs great to hear everyones theories though

Another question is, when this new body regrew, would it be clothed?

Don't confuse me even more :hihi:

That's not that confusing. I know what the answer should be. Hell no.

Hang on though. Peter Petrelli blew up completely and he regenerated didn't he?

They did the cliffhanger-y thing in the first series, where she was laid in the morgue, with the wood in her head, and the morgue technician was starting the autopsy on her.

Did he actually blow himself up though? I thought he just gave off enough energy to blow everything else up. When Ted was doing his crazy radioactive stuff he never got badly hurt, and he couldn't heal himself.
