Hi all, im thinking of upgrading my laptop (Asus a8sc) with a new CPU.
As standard it came with a t7100. Im thinking of sticking in a t9300 penryn. Word is they have different pin counts but are still pin compatible. Last time i opened a laptop the cpu was stictched to the board, is that still the case? Also anyone know where i can buy laptop parts, such as wireless modules, gpu's?
Thanks :)

some laptops are now upgradable, and a lot are set and not upgradable and from what I read it looks like yours should be possible but I cannot say 100%..

and if the cpu is different pin count I dont see how that would work :O

Yeh as Ghozer said, i've serviced around 5 laptops from Dell, Acer, Compaq etc... and so far only found dell to be upgradable.

As a rule of thumb if the laptop maker offers a choice in components like faster CPU and Ram (on the same model laptop) when you buy new then they are usually OK to upgrade.

Sweet :) It does have different cpu's in the model range.
As for pins, i think they remove an extra pin on a new part so that you cant stick in old processors in mobo's only designed for newer versions; but you can still plug a new one in to the old socket.
