i am trying to open a scanned image someone has e mailed me,when i press open it says this file does not havea program associated with it for performing this action, any clues anyone:confused:

what's the file extension ?

Can you see the "extension" part of the filename (after a ".")? Tell us what it is.
Every program can open certain files, for instance Word knows that it can open files that end in ".doc". It's the ".doc" bit that tells your computer which program to use. Your computer doesn't know what to do with the file.
You could also contact the originator of the message and ask them to send it in another format.

Be careful - do you know who sent the image?

Some bad 'uns have been known to send something purporting to be an image but that is actually a program named to look like an image to a cursory glance.

Post up the extension and let's see....if it's a scanned image could well be a TIF.

Havig reread your post I'm guessing that as it's a scan, it's been created with an extension that isn't terribly common and perhaps native only to the software package the scanner used.
Maybe ask the originator to send it to you as a "jpg" (usually pronounced "jay-peg") file type.
