Hmm not the best spot for pubs in my opinion - I used to like the Red Lion on Charles Street, not a million miles away, but since they installed loads of TVs for football I like it a lot less.

If you like rock music, the nelson is very close and a great pub. It is where we usually meet before going in.
although the plug isn't expensive for drinks.

thanks for the replies! basically im just trying to find a good place to use as a meeting point for a couple of us when we go, i dunno where else to think other than a pub because most of us drink, but the bar inside the club isnt a sit down sorta bar and have a chat kinda place apparently (i rang the venue today just to check) so a nearby spot would be much easier, preferably 5 mins walk!

If you want a quiet meeting place, and you are coming from the train station midweek probably the howard would be a good one or the red lion is a nice pub.

The bar inside the plug is ok. I have been several times and usually have no problem holding a conversation before the band comes on.

If you're talking this Friday, then I think The Howard sometimes so a pre bar thingy for Off The Rails @ Plug which is normally pretty good.

Its only a minute from the station and about 5 from plug.

The RoeBuck isn't very far away, and is a good meeting point.

The Moorfoot Tavern is slightly further down the hill at the bottom of the Moor. Recently redecorated, real ale and a nice environment.

The Rutland at the corner of Paternoster Row and Furnival Street is a good old fashioned pub, not noticed any tv screens, and I do believe the landlord has connections with Plug!

The pub also has a fab beer garden for sunny evenings.

point taken- but the sound isnt usually up on them.

have you been to the red lion? come and give it a whirl. :)

we often get a lot of people for pre-gig drinks from plug and the carling academy.

if youre after a place to meet up with a relatively low background noise level for a catch up before the gig then the lion is the place to come. its big enough to find accomodate a fairly big group, but no so big youll miss each other.

either way, have a top night....im just jealous coz ive got to work! :(

We normally meet up in the devonshire cat or washington - both decent pubs and only 5 mins away from Plug - but quite tricky to describe if you dont know Sheffield and are coming from the station.

but the red lion is dead easy to find if youre coming from the station! ;)

sophie- where is the red lion?

charles street...between arundel gate and the hubs.

its a bit of an old photo, but this (http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/59/5998/Red_Lion/Sheffield) is what youre looking for. :)

And there is the Dove and Rainbow a few extra minutes walk away, but most certainly worth the trip.......8 cask ales!
