Awful event - I hate it, some poor horse nearly always ends up dying

Hmm, I usually have a go on the National, apart from the Lottery every week it's the only time I gamble, certainly the only time I ever venture into a bookies... I've had some luck as well, 2 years ago my horse came 3rd, last year my horse came 2nd... Wonder if I'll end up backing the winner this time?

I see Amberleigh House is running - it won the National last year at 16/1 and I had my only bet of the year on it. I might risk a fiver each way in gratitude.

I usually bet on anything with an unusual name or one that means something to me. Last year I bet on Amberleigh House :D and The Bunny Boiler!
I love the National!!!

I am having £1 on Shergar with Lord Lucan as the Jockey.
I got odds of 12000000 -1 at the bookies, but it has to be worth a quid. :hihi:

I get really annoyed when I don't win...hence betting on all of them!

the only problem there is you are more than likely going to end up losing.

40+ horses running so you need a 50/1 shot to win for you to make anything.

Pick 5 or 6 then you will have a better chance of making a bit.

im gunna go for CLAN ROYAL AND TAKE THE STAND

the latter not having much work recently so will be either fresh or will be running with his legs falling off. hopefully being fresh in my case !!

Tip from a compulsive gambler:

The ground is almost certainly going to be soft - might even be worse.

Have a cautionary look through the form and pick a horse that likes the going soft underfoot.

Failing that - shut your eyes and get the old pin out.

I just went on a site to read a bit about the horses, trainers, form, wins, losses etc...god too much information!!!

Why do people get so much enjoyment about a race that is terrible, and I see as cruel to the horses in it???

I wish I had time to reply Sarah - i'm off to work.

In my humble opinion - you're wrong.

But I do appreciate your point.

i don't see why i am wrong i would welcome your views on why you think i am wrong.

After all nearly every year when this race is run does 1 horse die and some get injured.

i just feel its not a very nice race at all.

I'll do what I do every year and get my dog to put his paw on a random horse, then bet on it!

Could be the last year he does it :(

hiya,
it aint cruel, it's better than the horse been stuck in a stable doin nothing. they get rlly well looked after, some better than u & me. They r like celebs, the jockeys get less prasie than the horses. u only watch the race & see the horses fall nt read up after about it!!!
anyway bout the reason i'm posting. does any1 no a site of the last 40 runners. i gt list of all but there is 70 odd listed & only 40 running on saturday.?

http://www.sportinglife.com/racing/racecards/Saturday/Aintree/1610/

go to this link - list of runners and riders for the race and if you click on the name of the horse you can see a sembalance of its recent form...

Enjoy, remember only bet what you can afford to lose and don't get too upset if your selection turns out to be a little challenged in the race.

Do you know the reason why the horses are shoot & you hardly hear them survive? I dont think many ppl do so I'll explain.

When a horse is laying down it can't breathe properly, So when a horse falls it is more than likely going to hurt it's leg meaning it has to lay day for a number of days, weeks or whatever. Unless the owner is willing to hold the horse up with a sling it will die from laying down. It still might not seem fair but these horses are loved just like pets & it's for the best they are shoot instead of been in pain.

I views the field and considered....

Nil Desperandum, Spot the Difference and Strong Resolve - I'm gonna back all three to keep a bit of interest in the race.

You've been ripped off! I went to Ladbrokes and they gave me double those odds.

Unfortunately, I wanted to pay in Monopoly money and they threatened to phone my mum up if I didn't f-off out of their shop.

The irony is - if you backed the second or third placed horse in this race (Eack Way) you'd have more winnings to collect than if you backed the winner at 7/1 :hihi:

Well my no1 bet on Clan Royal all went a bit pear shaped

Luckily I had covered it each way on Hedgehunter

Even better news is that I got a letter through today inviting me to apply for badges for Ascot's Royal Enclosure this year! :D

Just got back from aintree, suprisingly had one of most profitable national visits. Didn't actully have a single winner but got some excellent place results (managed to get 2nd and 4th in the national). Had to laugh when a huge groan went around the course when 'clan royal' was brought down (only because I hadn't backed it). The course and police did a really good job on sorting out the transport problems with the strike on. Lots of free buses wich transported 10,000 odd back to the city centre.

I had my money on Jolly Bey and our lass had a bet on Clan Royal.

Much obscenities were heard coming from her direction as the non-ridden horse made Clan Royal crash into the barrier which she said was unfair as it made clan royal lose- bless her x

I was watching at the end as well and I dont like the fact that the press and people crowd round the winning horse and jockey, which the horse does not seem to like and looked quite agitated and scared.

Clan Royal was never going to win.
The jockey on board,Tony Mccoy,is the current champion jockey.
But,he has a touch of the 'Jimmy Whites'when it comes to the National. Its a race he's destined not to win.

put a quid on lord atterbury, but it clashed after the 1st fence, ffs. ..... . .. . unlucky.

another fiver went eachway on 'it takes time', which came 4th, got 12 pounds back altogether. not bad tho. lol :)

me girlfriend spotted the winner the third year in a row. she's the real lucky girl, should get her to buy the lotto. wakakaka
