Anyone spot any good April Fool Hoaxes today - there's normally a few in the papers and on the BBC.

The only one I've spotted so far was in the Daily Mirror - sheep being brought in to keep the turf short at the new Wembley Stadium

There is a good one in the Times today by BMW - apparently an EU law will come into force in 2007 banning right hand drive cars on roads on the European mainland. In response, BMW are producing a car with central drive.

I was reading that BMW did one last year... Self inflatable tyres... :hihi:

I also remember a few years back on the Southern News they announced that people that grew grape vines were actually producing wine flavored Grapes... I sadly fell for this one... being so young of course

I think that internet April Foolery has reached the point of a sort of sport; hunting down the jokes amongst the day's news and other detritus washed up from the information superhighway.

One on the front page of the "Guardian" about Prince Charles being offered the role of "countryside tsar".

Favourite bits - The Archers to move to Channel 5. Fox hunting could be legalised as long as opened up to kids from council estates (didn't say whether they'd be riding to hounds or chased by them!). Drag hunting might be an Olympic event if London gets the 2012 games. Camilla Parker - Bowles portrait to be on packets of Duchy Original stem ginger.

Good one on Radio 4 this morning about the royal succession. Apparently, the laws of succession just say the eldest son is the next in line to the throne and, after big ears marries the royal concubine, Tom Parker_Bowles will be Chas's heir as he's older than William.

They even had experts on discussing the ramifications. :D

And then there's the clingfilm across the top of the bowl. You tend to get your own back with that one.:gag:

This one by the forum jokers takes the biscuit though..............

I fell for that one for a while. I pondered the fact of Tommy Boy being King and thought HOW FANTASTIC that would be then realised it was a hoax.............Darn it!!

On GMTV this morning Lorraine Kelly introduced her new record - I really hope it was the joke I took it for.

Anyone remember the Tonight tv programme (when the world was black and white) which reported on the failed spaghetti harvest - including a reporter standing under a tree with lengths of the stuff hanging from the branches?

My best April fools joke of a few years ago.

I am the first up in the morning, 6am, so while everyone was asleep I put all the clocks in the house, including alarm clocks, on 1 hour.

When I got home that evening everyone was fuming, I was in the dog house for a week. My wife stood at the bus stop wondering where the bus was. When she realised that the usual people were not at the bus stop she went back home as the bus was every hour. My Son walked to work thinking he had missed the bus then wondered why the factory was closed. It was a miserable cold wet morning.

I still fail to see why they didn’t see the funny side, it was April Fools Day after all.
:hihi:

I did a real good one today.

Tom, a guy who works with me was stressing yesterday because his car tax run out, he phoned DLA and managed to get 14 days grace to sort it out.

This morning he went on a break and went arount the block, he left his keys on his desk. So I moved his car from out front to behind the building on hammerton rd (kind of near the police station). I then got some DVA road tax leaflets and placed them tactically near where his car was.
He came in comvinced his car had been towed.
'April fools'
I then told him he should look for it near the local police station as they might have it!

I presume that this (http://www.looklocal.org.uk/news.php?id=283) is an April Fool. But it was posted on the 31st March?

I've just read it. It must be a joke. The reporter mentions a University of Skegness. Er, surely not?

I never new they celebrated AFD in Croatia, but after a bit of research I discovered it was celebrated in many Countries.

"April Fool's Day is one of the most light hearted days of the year, yet it stems from a serious subject—the adoption of a new calendar.

A Traditional New Year's

Ancient cultures, including those as varied as the Romans and the Hindus, celebrated New Year's Day on April 1. It closely follows the vernal equinox (March 20th or March 21st.) In medieval times, much of Europe celebrated March 25, the Feast of Annunciation, as the beginning of the new year.

In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII ordered a new calendar (the Gregorian Calendar) to replace the old Julian Calendar. The new calendar called for New Year's Day to be celebrated Jan. 1. Many countries, however, resisted the change. In fact, some European countries held out for centuries (Scotland until 1660; Germany, Denmark, and Norway until 1700; and England until 1752).

Many French Refuse

In 1564 France adopted the reformed calendar and shifted New Year's day to Jan. 1. However, many people either refused to accept the new date, or did not learn about it, and continued to celebrate New Year's Day April 1.

Other people began to make fun of these traditionalists, sending them on "fool's errands" or trying to trick them into believing something false.

April Fish

The French came to call April 1 Poisson d'Avril, or "April Fish." French children sometimes tape a picture of a fish on the back of their schoolmates, crying "Poisson d'Avril" when the prank is discovered.

Great Britain Accepts the Calendar

In 1752, Great Britain finally changed over to the Gregorian Calendar, and April Fool's Day began to be celebrated in England and in the American colonies.

Pranks and jokes are of course still popular on this day—not to mention the rest of the year. by David Johnson"

PlusNet (my ISP) are always up for a laugh.
This was posted to their service-status list:

Subject: ADSL Network and Power Supply Maintenance - 1st April Midnight to Midday

Service Affected:- All Services

Maintenance Window:- 1st April Midnight to Midday

Duration of expected customer impact: - Intermittently during the maintenance window.

Detailed description of work to be performed:-

In order to prepare for the forthcoming ADSL speed upgrades we need to perform some
essential maintenance work on our network.

The first stage of the work will require our network engineers to drain the stale
sessions on our 622Mbps central pipes that have built up over the past few months to
bring them to full operating efficiency.

During the maintenance window we would advise that where possible our customers reverse
the polarity of the neutron flow on their routers. As not every router supports this
functionality we would advise as an alternative to unplug the router from both the power
socket and the phone line and place it in a plastic bag to prevent any lost packets
escaping into the atmosphere.

We will also be taking the opportunity to do our bit for the environment by moving our
electricity supply at our Sheffield Headquarters to solar power.

As a backup measure for when it isn't sunny in Sheffield we have purchased 20 bicycles to
generate the necessary power. The PlusNet Usergroup (http://usergroup.plus.net) have
volunteered to be on standby to cycle for the first month, after that the standby will be
rotated around the rest of our customers in a similar manner to jury service. We will
contact you via email giving you plenty of notice of when it is your turn.

Other Notes:-

Please accept our apologies for the short notice of this maintenance work.

Kind Regards,

Dave Tomlinson

I was in Germany on April 1st. Reading their local newspaper, there was an article about the introduction of a new low-fat pigeon milk. Mmmm.
