I recently bought new computer with free trial of norton. did its job for a while and when trial ended I uninstalled it. As soon as I did this I was suddenly getting aggressive pop ups from 'antivirus2008' which was telling me there were loads of viruses on my computer and I should purchase this software to cure the problem. There was no way of uninstalling this. I tried everything research on various websites confirmed that this originated from norton but no easy way of getting rid. One of my friends encountered exactly the same problem when he uninstalled Norton so it must originate from Norton. The only way I managed to stop the pop ups was by keying in 'msconfig' in 'run' box and clicking on 'startup' tab and untick av2k8. I have loaded up AVG which is brilliant and free and allows me to uninstall if need be without any problems. The thing that's bugging me is I know 'Antivus 2008' is still on my computer.

I not fully sure how to get rid but you could try Spyware Terminator,AVG anti spyware,Kaspersky online etc
yep thats a virus, not norton, usually associated with a vundo type, will probably be also telling you to clean up your PC with some mechanic or other.
its one of the many that norton misses

Savanah will be along shortly to give you a link to the removal tool. ;)
sound like a virus norton is generally straight forward to uninstall.
nortons w*nk when I'm at work I keep trying to remove norton from machines and putting good antivirus on free but my boss keeps catching me lol
I don't think it's down to Norton.I think it's unrelated malware that needs cleaning via other tools. If it's just norton here yoy go ................

getting rid of AntiVirus2008 on my son's machine using www.superantispyware.com - free download for home use - seems to have worked!
DO NOT download spyhunter, it's not free.
