Hi,

SInce I recently moved to Sheffield I am not yet on the electoral register. The council say I can register now but cannot vote in the general election if it happens on May 5th which they said is likely.

Any idea on how I can get my vote if the GE goes ahead on May 5th then? Cant I get some kind of temporary vote until I can use which would be counted once their bureacracy deals with me?

I am not registered anywhere else because I was living overseas for 2 years, so cant take up their suggestion of using a postal vote in the area I used to live.

Thanks,

Mark

Nothing to do with the council or bureacracy. It's The Electoral Commission who determine the closing date for voter registration.

See here: The Electoral Commission (http://www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/)

You could have registered to vote whilst living overseas. You could have then obtained a postal vote, or arranged a proxy vote. Unfortunately, you didn't register, and you've lost your vote for the time being.

The periods of registration are not determined by any council - they just comply with the law on these matters.
