When did Davy Brothers, Park Iron Works, Brightside stop trading? I think my great-great-grandad worked for them between 1845 and 1870 some time. Do you think I could get a list of employees from that far back?

Falls 19-01-2006, 18:57 I found this old topic on a shelf at the back (/Actually, it was page 38). Don't know if you found the info you were looking for. Davy Bros went in to receivership in the 1930s, and was reorganized when the United Foundry and Engineering Co. Ltd. of Pittsburgh, USA, put money into company. After that, it was know as Davy-United. They had two works: Park Iron Works (PIW) on Fowley Street, Norfolk Bridge where they had been since 1842(?), and a more modern works at Darnall. Davy sold PIW and moved everyone ( head office staff, the smiths shop and fabrication shop) to the Darnall in 1957. Davy United do not exist anymore. The Darnall Works are still there on Prince of Wales Road but are now owned by Kaeverner E & C (UK) Ltd. peterw 20-01-2006, 00:28 Before the war Davy Uited made among other things railway carriages. After the war I remember seeing some of their larges plastic injection moulting machines. I also recall having seen their name in connection with rolling mills. Falls 20-01-2006, 01:06 In my years at Davy-United, and for a good many years before and aftwards, they designed and built rolling mills and the occasional forging press. They also did outside work for other people for their machine and assembly shops were some of the best equiped in the country. |
