View Full Version : Advice regarding my Budgie please

I have a male and a female Budgie. They have lived quite happily together for two years. This last couple of weeks, the female (who is getting an old lady at five years old) has 'become ill' (or her symptoms to me, a layman seem so). She is moving her head up and down as if regurgitating her food. Her mouth is also producing a creamy white substance, which sometimes the male will try to get it in his beak. She has never laid an egg, and there is no nesting box. Is she going through a 'phantom pregnancy'or 'change', or is it something more? I have separated them, but common sense dictates that if whatever she has is contagious, then he would have caught it by now. I have taken her three times to a Vet, who diagnosed pneumonia. However, it is right to say that the Vet did not examine the Budgie, for fear of being bitten. It was 'diagnosis by eye'. Can anyone recall their Budgie being like this? I am taking her to another Vet tomorrow, but I am told not all Vets are able to help birds. Any help would be most gratefully accepted. Thank You.

You might be better asking in the pets section, I hope you find an answer :)

terminator knows a lot about budgies, he breeds them. Maybe send him a pm or something, he might know what's going on.

Hope it turns out ok.

A vet scared of a little budgie, what happens when he gets a great snapping dog, or scratching cat

I had a budgie that was much older than this

change your vet, and save your pet

I don't know about Budgies, but hope yours gets better.
I would do as the OP says and see another vet, they shouldn't be afraid to examine an animal! There's a lot worse than a budgies beak!
Hope she picks up soon.

I'm not a wealth of information on Budgies butI do know that they regurgitate food, is this what she is doing?
I used to have a female that did this and spit sticky seed all over:rolleyes:

Hi Moonbird. Yes, she is doing that, but also she has white creamy stuff in her mouth and her beak trembles. Should know later today what it is.

Thank you everyone. I think I now know what 'her' problem is. It turns out that she is a boy. The cere over the beak has turned from brown to blue - boy budgies have blue ceres. He has a hormone deficiency, and has had a hormone injection this tea time. Hope this is the turning point. Thank you everyone for your good wishes. Ruby, I did follow your advice. Mods may now wish to close the thread. Thanks again.
