Hi All. What with Sheffield having all these hills it seems to me there should be a bunch of beer gardens around with fantastic views across the city where you can watch the sun go down.

The best I can come up with is the Vine on Cemetary road, but the beer's not so good in there, in my humble opinion.

Does any one have any suggestions?

I haven't been but when I go fishing at Crookes Valley Park I always fancy going and sitting in the Dam House beer garden. It always looks really nice and calm as the sun is setting.

The problem is that the hills to the west of Sheffield obscure the sunset from a lot of places. That combined with all the trees in lots of the suburbs makes Sheffield not a great city for sunsets.

If you want sunsets you need to be somewhere flat with big skies or looking out over the ocean.

Perhaps the view helps take peoples' minds off of the foul food served in the bar.

I agree. The view from the Alma beer garden is really beautiful - pretty sure you could see the sun slipping below the horizon if you stood near the swings and the wendy house at the bottom - I plan to find out soon - although sadly missed the opportunity tonight.

Always liked the Three Merry Lads at Lodge Moor for a warm summers evening and the sun going down.

I love the summer evening view from the Rivelin, but no sunset I'm afraid.

The Rising sun in Winkybank is a lovely place to have a drink outside. You can see the orange glow and feel the lovely heat when you're sat out with a drink... although it is usually from a burning car around the back.........

Big Tree at Woodseats
two drawbacks that I can see ...
a) You can't see the setting sun from there
b) There's no beer garden
:)

In addition to the ones already mentioned, the Peacock at Owler Bar, great views right across open country, to the City.

The views from the Barrack at Apperknowle take some beating. It is great to sit outside and watch the sun go down. It is even better in daylight to just look at the views

The big tree has a very upmarket "Fag Hut" though this could almost be a thread in itself - I have rediscovered pubs since the ban - never did like sitting in an ash tray but unfortunately its now made the beer garden considerably less attractive. I would therefore prefer to consider which pub has the best conservatory!
