Just saw this in the last paragraph of this article on the Star... http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/New-city-centre-club-on.4054222.jp

"Meanwhile a request for a man to be temporarily registered as designated premises supervisor of two pubs was withdrawn following police concerns. James Brown, registered in charge of The Devonshire Arms, Ecclesall Road, asked for permission take over at The Lion's Lair, Burgess Street, on a temporary basis while the management changed hands."

Blimey - I wonder what the police concerns are? I like the Devonshire Arms and can't see why the police would have concerns about it's owners?!

You can only be in charge of one pub at a time, it's a simple as that. A Designated Premises Supervisor is supposed to have complete charge of the premises. You'd be spreading yourself too thinly by putting your name on two. This stems back to the old licensing act where you could only have one Licencee per pub and a Licencee couldnt put their name onto two.

If something went wrong in a pub and the DPS was in the other pub, the police wouldn't be able to call upon the DPS to assist them.

Both pubs listed are generally bother free, but I guess if it was agreed to then it would set a precedent for other DPSs to try the same thing. The police need to keep control so I imagine this is why it has been decided like this.

Unless anyone knows different....

Let me clear it up for you!

We took the Lions Lair on a short term basis as it due to be demolished. As the current manager had misplaced her actual licence, though she has the documentation, I had to apply to be the DPS. This was discussed with the police beforehand and they advised me that we could open Lions Lair this way though they would object, giving me 28 days to put a new DPS application in to the council. So though we knew it would be objected too, it meant that we could open a lot faster than having to wait for the current manager to get her paperwork sorted out!

So it was a way to fiddle the system then.

Lets see how the media decide to report it!

Ah - makes sense then! I thought that was a little odd! When you see "police concerns" I always think of drug dens and stolen goods!
