View Full Version : Is this the way to spend the money !
Watching the national and regional news tonight I was amazed to see that a girl aged six has had to have her hands and feet amputated because of blood poisioning following her contracting meningitis.
Her distraught family are showing a brave face and being very strong about this what must be devostating state of affairs for them and their child.
They are going to try and fundraise so that she can get some better treatment and better options on artificial limbs and stuff.
Then in the daily tabloids I read that a pop star and camera crew have been flown to Amarillo, at the papers expense to promote and sensationalise the singers record ( yes I know it has comic relif connections) , But how much money could the roaring soaraway daily paper have given to the girls family instead of flying an singer and his hanger ons to the a photo shoot.
Does anybody think I am being negative here or is it time that we started to put money where it is needed and support some of Britains needy.
roughy101 30-03-2005, 20:00 i agree with you 100% i dont know how her family coped with making the decision to amputate, what a little fighter ,i saw her tonight on the news trying to learn how to whistle, her father said she was really determined to do things for herself, makes me feel really humble, the parents shouldnt have to raise money for the best limbs for their child ,they should be readily available.

I don't wish to be negative but i don't get your point - what has kids operation have to do with someone promoting a record- do you think we should stop all fun things in the world because there are sick people - could you please explain your logic here.
I am not against the fun things in life, I am just disapointed that a family has to think about raising money to help their child, when other things which appear to be "trivial " seem to have large amounts of money thrown at them.
the photo shoot is one of many things that to me seem like a waste of money. I know its not public money so why worry, but anybody in need of hospital care, support through trauma should have all the help and support that the civilised world we live in can bestow on them without having to think about the cost or where funding will come from.
WELL SAID Foxprom, too many so called charity junkets- I was always told charity begins at home. About time we looked after our own first. This little girls family must be distraught, my heart goes out to them.

OK, but are you going on holiday this year? Because if so, I think you should cancel it and send the money to this family. If you're not going on holiday, then you should give up whatever you enjoy doing, because the money could be better used elsewhere.
Funding of the health care system is the responsibility of the government, not the tabliod press.
I saw people in Homebase today buying paint, electrical fittings and garden furniture. How disgusting when there are starving limbless children everywhere!
I for one wont be spending money again.

Step One:
Sell your computer and donate the equivalent of your ISP subscription to your need.
Next: Go to a
aaaaah you know what I mean.
OK. I'm editing now:
I and mine earn money. We use that to raise our offspring and provide for our non-working future. A large margin is needed.
Anything over the margin is used for charitable purposes at our discretion.
The most charitable causes are mine and other children. But regularly we feel that we can splash a bit here and there.
Feel free to beg, but please don't get upset if I don't give.
I think this thread has run its course and the point that i originally intended to make has been lost.
A lot of money is wasted at corporate and industrial levels the amounts involved could solve many of the worlds problems.
DOnt know how to solve it , just feel a bit ****** off about it and thought that the forum might give me an outlet to let of my steam. !

By this logic, man would never have ventured into space and landed on the moon, as the money could have been spent on feeding the starving millions in the world.
Personal foreign holidays should be stopped - and the money used to pay for research and drugs to treat malaria, Aids, etc.
Indeed, never mind a paper flying a pop star abroad for a photoshoot - let's ban everyone from buying CDs, and donate the money to charities for crippled children.
I haven't seen this newspaper article you refer to. Clearly, this child's plight has touched you, as it would anyone. Send a donation by all means. But you can't stop corporate bodies, newspapers included, from deciding on how they wish to spend their money. You also have that same choice - to decide whether to cancel your holiday, stop buying CDs, even stop buying paint at Homebase (see post from CorpG) and donate your money to this worthy cause. But you also need to think about the needs of even greater numbers of children - those that could be saved from dying of Aids, malaria, diarrhoea - if we made the decision to spend our money on these causes.
Difficult moral choices. Your original post leads me to conclude that we each need to resolve these difficult decisions in our own way, and live with our conscience.
