Some weeks ago I changed Josh to the BARF diet because he had constant bouts of runs, runny eyes and smelly ears. The vet was giving him course after course of antibiotics, steriod for eyes and anti inflammatories. He is only 4 and I decided to try the barf diet. 3-4 weeks later and good results. His motions have been normal, his eyes have cleared up and his ears dont smell half as bad, no meds have been given in this period.
Today however he is really off. His temp is 38.4 which well within normal range, but he has a warm nose and is very despondant, he looks really fed up. He has had loose motions this morning.
I am wondering if there is an underlying infection that keeps rearing its ugly head, but to be honest if he gets no worse today I am reluctant to take him to vet as I know he will give him injections, a course of antibiotics and an anti inflammatory injection.

Any ideas at all???

TY Avril

Hard to say. If it's any consolation, Ailsa is a bit off her food today and I think it has something to do with the change in temperture -it is suddenly a lot warmer, so we've made sure she has plenty of fresh water available and we're keeping her out of the mid-day sun. It doesnt hurt her to limit her food intake if she isnt working and if it looks as if it might be something more than that, we will take her to the vets.

Ambers also very subdued today, she generally gets like it with the hot weather. She keeps slinking off to go to sleep on the bed:roll:
Don`t know what to suggest about the runs, does he normally have this problem if he`s rundown, it sometimes affects people in that way, so can only assume dogs may suffer like that aswell.

Molly's just the same at the moment- she suffers with runny bum on and off anyway and this bout seems to be coinciding with the hotter weather. She's only chasing her ball half heartedly if at all, but there's little we can do about it other than make sure that she's got plenty of water and shade to rest in.

I hope that Josh picks up without the need for a trip to the vets.

Thank you all, he is a bit brighter now and asking for TEA, its me I get in a panic because Shadow had the pancreatic insufficiency thing I think Josh is going the same way every time he is off. He is a long coat so the temperature changes must be really sweaty. Will get the hose pipe out tomorrow and have some water games!

aww he'll enjoy that! Ailsa is really mardy at the moment - either she's hungry or she isn't bothered and I'm sure it's because it's turned warm. She takes herself off to bed every so often then comes back downstairs because I'm not following her. Drama-queen!
Bet she regains her appetite if I say the magic word (PIG'S EAR!)

The heat's really getting to mine too. Not that it's surprising with the huge rug of a coat they both wear but it's upsetting that even when we go out Casper won't play :(

You can get hold of pigs ears KK? There seems to be a bit of a shortage atm and I'm running on emergency supplies.

Strangely Molly-the-really-picky-and ambivalent-about-food chomped her way through a HUGE bowl of food as soon as her friends Petie and Bailey were in attendance for dinner on Monday evening, just to make sure that they didn't get it- thus proving that her pickiness is just because she can.

There's nothing wrong at all with caring for your animals and fretting for their wellbeing estweyn. Hopefully Josh being a bit off-colour today is nothing to worry about though.
