Try friends re-united, there is such a thing as the data protection act in place and names and address's usually fall into that category...

I bloody hope so anyway

You could try 192.com. They have access to the electoral roll, but you have to pay.

the data protection act does exist but most people always forget to "tick the box"

Even on electoral register you can opt not to be disclosed i believe.

At least when i signed up to vote im sure there was that option, sort of X Directory if you like.

Basic rules of data protection are
- Data may only be used for the purpose it was gathered. So if i fill out a store card application the store can only use that information to check my credit etc, however if i dont "tick the box" then they can sell it onto one of these marketing companies willy nilly.

-Only data relevant the purpose it was gathered may be held.

-Any data that is to be kept and used on a recurring basis must be kept up to date (so the store card company should do everything they can to ensure they have my most recent address)

- Data should not be kept forlonger than is necessary

and it MUST be kept secure and not leave the EU
So if while filling in your store card application the cashier left another application on the counter that you could read, this would be against data protection.

There are a few other bits but cant think of em right now.

Also you have the right to demand a full report showing details of all information held on your by any organisation.

A good example is being able to get a copy of your credit history

As you are aware....

You will always be listed on the paper copy available for physical viewing at the Register Office.

The option is not to be included in the lists that they sell to businesses or display elsewhere.
