Hello.
I'm moving to Sheffield next 11 of October, to stay as a visiting scholar at the University of Sheffield until 13 of December. I would like to find someone to play tennis, which is my favourite sport.
My level is medium (more or less like Tim Henman:)
Would anyone like playing with me?

There is a good tennis club on Ecclesall Rd nr Endcliffe Park. I am sure if you pop in there you will be able to play with some members there. There will also be Tennis club and players at University

i live across the road from the hallamshire tennis club. Its an excellent place to play tennis but quite expensive to become a member, and I don't know what they do for coaching but you can always enquire. It is on ecclesall road next to the hunters bar roundabout.

Are there any tennis players out there who'd like to join me play a few matches on an ongoing basis a couple of times a week? No worry as to cost coz I get it free at uni.

No strictu arrangements, just a couple of times a week after work, between 6 & 7pm to destress whilst keeping fit! May even play on the odd weekend if available. Courts are on Collegiate Crescent...ideal for a wee drink in th'pub after:P

Not that I'm a tennis star you understand ... but ... yeah I'll give it a go Bloo.

My schedule is pretty full in the evenings between 6.00 and 7.00 though ... unless it's on a friday (my rest day) ... jam packed with pondsforge stuff and salsa etc ...

I can do friday's and weekends ... if that's any good to you let me know.

Be more than happy to go for drinkies after ... with you and / or dabouncer.

Its a tough life Jamie....

Playing games all day long;)
and then out dancing and playing stuff in the evening
Going out for Romantic meals

Looks like you could do with a course in time management to fit a bit more in.

I'm up for that!! I was going to post a similar thread as I have just got back into the sport. I play at the police social club and can get a court for free, so not short of options on that front. Pm Bloo for when you go next time.

Does anyone know of any Tennis clubs around anymore. I know graves will have one but that's the other side of the city for me and I don't drive. Does Hillsborough still run one in the park? I just want to go and train again, nothing too serious.

Hi, hallamshire at the end of rustlings road near endcliffe park is a little intimidating, however it has excellent facilites and coaching staff. Although it is a little pricy, brentwood lawn tennis club (netheredge) is cheap and has basic but well maintained facilites, i dont know if they carry out coaching courses there but its worth a try.

Thanks for those Haza. I would prefer something closer to Stannington as I don't have my own transport, however I will take these into consideration as I have friends who live in those areas and have cars. Now I just have to get them interested in tennis:D

Hi,

I'm not interesting in joining an expensive tennis club or taking any tennis lessons..., I just want to find a tennis court (the closer to the city centre the better) to play with my mate...

Thanks in advance for your replies...

You'll find some on Winter Street just up from the uni roundabout.

Do you mean those in Weston Park ? The surface is really horrible, you can hardly guess where the ball is going after a bounce... :-)

any better ones?

S1 on Northumberland road has good tennis courts.

Hillsborough Park. The courts were resurfaced a few years ago. There is car parking and also bus stops right next to them. I am not sure if there is a charge but I don't think so.

I've always played but haven't for a bit. All the people I used to play with are either married or worse! I'm 35 and I'm not that good but want to get much better. I work at a school so can get a free court but would prefer to play up at Graves tennis centre for a smallist fee. If you fancy a game or practise weekly then send me a email. christmnsh@aol.com

Just wondered whether there were any tennis teachers out there or anybody who fancied a game. My game is ok, haven’t played for a number of yours so just getting back into it. (bit of a poor second serve!)

I play at the U-SPORT place on Northumberland Road, Crookes.

PM if your interested or for more info.

I'd be interested in playing if you fancy playing at graves park or graves tennis and leisure centre @ norton.

That invite is extended to all too, by the way.

Hi,

My mate and I are looking for a couple of tennis partners to share a doubles game up at the University.

Aged Ideally between 23 - 29, the ideal candidates should have a good sence of humour, be reasonably intelligent (to keep score) and be kitted out in the appropriate dress.

If you win, we'll buy you dinner.

Seriously, if you've got a mate and are looking to meet a couple of interesting, professional, funny blokes then PM me.

Dan

Hi all, i`m looking for a gym to go to, looked around a few, Graves seems nice, has anyone been to it & is it good? does anyone know?

mikey
13-09-2004, 15:03
I have been in and had a look around, it looks good. The beauty about this place is that you can "Pay as you go" or pay the monthly fee.

No pool or spa but its a lot better value than the big gyms if all you want is a gym.

I was thinking of going there also, hmm might have a goosey gander at it now.

The pool is available to members, my wife uses it several times a week.

Anything between £15 and £26 a month.
Depends on your job/circumstances/type of membership etc.

Tracey.C.

The monthly fee is £26.80 a month and u get full use of the place, including the fitness studio which has some good classes.

I can only go evening due to having a baby and no creche available, however i am rather shy/embarrased about going to one of these places and would love to make freinds with people/person to go with and have fun, if possible!

It was nice playing tennis during the summer, but now it seems I've already missed it... I can't wait till next summer...

does anybody know if there are any indoor courts around? ...hopefuly not costing an arm and a leg to book for an hour...! ...or not requiring an expensive tennis club subscription... before being able to book a court to play...

Am I asking too much? ...hope not!

thanks

Try Graves Tennis and Leisure centre. Details here:

Graves Tennis (http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/out--about/lesiure-services---activity--sheffield/sports--centres/graves--tennis--and--leisure--centre)

I think there's pay as you go available too.

MeGe

thanks max, it seems a bit expensive though for pay as you go...

£16 an hour for peak / of peak...

Hi all you fitness fiends
Just thought i better warn anyone using or about to use Graves Tennis and Leisure centre at Bochum Parkway for any activity including swimming. My husband and i were using the swimming pool on Tuesday and someone broke into the locker room and stole my husbands phone and car keys..the car was then stolen. We have the car back but now have to wait 4 months to use it until the locks can be changed(otherwise invalidates our insurance). This is not the first time this has happened, the gym lockers were broke into a couple of weeks ago and a car was also stolen. this has caused us tremendous inconvienience and upset as other items were also in the car. The centre do have disclaimers posted around but none tell you to give your valubles over to reception. If you are using the facilities make sure you ask reception to put your car keys etc in their safe. We have been members here from the beginning but if it isn't made more secure will be taking our monthly payments elsewhere!!!

In Spain I used to play with intermidiate/advanced players both males and females. I just love playing tennis and want to find someone to play. By the way, I know that Fran is a girl name here but I'm a 24 years old guy.

Hi,

I'm interested, decent standard club player (qualified elementary level coach) but have not played for a few months due to a back injury. Have played in Spain before. Would be very pleased to have a hit with you. Please email me at cczmark@talk21.com.

Thanks,
Mark.
