Warn anyone who walks their dogs in the area.

A woman taking her dog for a walk has been the victim of a "serious sexual assault" in Sheffield, police say.

The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was walking her dog in woods behind Lees Hall Avenue on Tuesday afternoon when she was attacked.

A police spokesman said she was approached by a man who forced her to take a more secluded path before subjecting her to an assault.

Officers believe the man may have approached other people in the area.

Thanks for that..... I heard the other day that a young girl was attacked in Strelly Woods (between Abbey Lane and Meadowhead!!) apparently that was a nasty sexual attack and she was only about 15years. Must remember to take my alarm (and baseball bat) when I next walk the dog.

There seems to be a lot of attacks in Sheffield lately - wonder if it's the same person carrying out the attacks.

Worrying to say the least.

I think it is very likely this is the same person that carried out the attack on the girl in Frog Walk. The style is exactly the same...approaching her and forcing her to go somewhere more secluded. Let's hope they police hurry and and catch him

my kids play football at Newfield School and recently were warned by the football coaches not to go to the woods for a pee without an adult because a man had been reported in the area hanging around/looking dodgy!!

Not a helpful map for the geographically impaired though cgksheff. It doesn't contain street names, including Lees Hall Avenue.

The site, robbo. The site!

It is really a shame when people need dragging through the basics.

Go to streetmap. co uk and type in the street address.
You will get a close up that then gives people no idea where in Sheffield it is.

Play with the zoom button to get what you want.

The map is what you make of it. The tool is quite useful.

OK?

Hey cgksheff - that's great! Thanks. Having left school over 40 years ago, I am now living proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks. Please don't assume basic knowledge on my part - I'm largely self-taught when it comes to computers; but appreciate your guidance and tips on navigating this map. Thanks again!

Stop being so nice Redrobbo!

Where on earth do you get your attitude from cgksheff? :loopy: You can't possibly assume that everyone on here is a computer literate as you are. Were you never a beginner to the internet? I doubt it! Why is it a shame when people need 'dragging through the basics? I guess you never learned anything from anyone?

This forum is supposed to be a friendly place; your post is just condescending.

There are some really useful links posted on here; I know this because I spend a fair amount of time making sure that the ones I post are useful! Why didn't you post this (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=436000.198288946&Y=384000.017918303&width=700&height=400&gride=435987.198288946&gridn=383947.017918303&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=GB&addr1=&addr2=lees+hall+avenue&addr3=sheffield&pc=&advanced=true&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&zm=0&in.x=9&in.y=9&scale=25000) link? Surely that's far more useful for a thread about a specific place!

Ey up Kristian. This is an even better map. Thanks for your help too. Maybe cgksheff was just a tad tired when he posted his advice to me? All is forgiven though. Just pleased to learn new tricks. Best wishes - redrobbo.

RedRobbo did not ask the question.

Anyone who asks the original question is unfamiliar with Sheffield street localities. (not unusual)

I gave an indicator of where, inside Sheffield, the road (avenue) was. As requested.

Secondly:
I also explained how to use the website that could be used to get these maps. (at whatever zoom you may wish)

If robbo had zoomed-in he would have ended up with the same map.

I also recognise that robbo said thank you.

Isn't it amazing how people flock in to mock someone who is a helper?

This is an open forum; surely if only one person was affected you'd reply by PM?

Being unfamiliar with an area means they don't live there? There's lots of new people to Sheffield!

He did. Quite why, I'm not sure.

OK.
K.

Basics.
Your map of Lees Hall Avenue is of help to most people in Sheffield. As would have been my first choice on "streetmap".

I answered 'loopylou's question very well, I believe to give an indication of where in Sheffield we were talking about..

I gave people a website that would help them to find anywhere in the UK. As will "Multimap" if they choose to use it.

I was incredibly short with 'redrobbo' to whom I apologise.
Sorry, redrobbo. Thought I helped you though!

Everyone else: Wow. Sorry if I offended you.

Hey, you didn't offend me; I just wasn't impressed to see you flame at a relatively new user! I didn't want to cast aspersions about your normal conduct, I just thought this one post was off he mark!

Take care,

Apologies accepted cgksheff. Not everyone has your expertise or is a dab hand at navigating sites, etc. (Some of us old 'uns are actually just learning these techniques). But thanks to you, and to Kristian, for both you help and advice.

If this is the same person then he needs to be caught and quickly.

Unfortunately the view would probably be to give him a slap on the wrist, let him off if he promises not to do it again.

If he has been reported more than once in a certain area at a semi regular time why dont the police at least patrol around thart area at that time.

I certainly wouldnt feel safe if i was a female in that area.

Keep your wits about you people

They apparently arrested an 18 year old lad but have released him on bail...

Being released on police bail doesn't mean a slap on the wrists. Means they haven't got sufficient evidence to charge him with yet (if he did it).

If charged, tried and found guilty I'm pretty sure it would mean a prison sentence

Or it could be they arrested someone who didn't actually committ the crime, and upon realising this he was released on bail.

Can you explain that please, was he in the lineup but not picked, or was he not in the lineup at all, in which case he was sure not to be picked.

Only just noticed this. I live near Newfield Scool, on Woodland Road. I like to walk in the woods and as I'm interested in birds, wild flowers and even the geology, I can be spotted lurking down by the beck, often wearing wellies, or lying in the middle of the woods, presumably looking dodgy. Hope the "man" wasn't me! I'd hate to think anyone would suspect me of anything like these attacks etc!
