have a ford sirra car 1989. having trouble with petrol gauge not showing how much petrol in. any ideas please
If it has a trip on the mileometer use that, I stick £20 in every 130miles and not run out yet. BTW my fuel gauge has a mind of its own.:hihi:

My petrol gauge does work, but I have got into the habit of filling up when I have done about 150 miles. I just fill up to the top.

Is it just on empty all the time or getting stuck at some point?

Sounds to me that you just fill it up, and then keep filling it before you've done enough miles to empty it, or take it to a garage. The float is inside the tank so not likely you can fix it your self.

It could be stuck, or the wiring broken/shorted; i.e. it might not be the meter that's faulty. (My sender is accessible from inside the car under one of the seats above the fuel tank, but it's not a Ford Sierra! :))

Dodgy fuel gauges!! I had a vw beetle years ago that did'nt have one(just a reserve). So put a golf ball in the tank, Which knocked on the bottom of the tank when fuel low. Worked for me LOL

Does that assume that golf balls float, if yours do can you tell me where you get them from because every time I put one in a pond it sinks never to be seen again:hihi:, I am not very good at golf as you can tell.

My classic Fords both have dodgy fuel gauges...you just learn to live with them....

Perhaps its something to do with amount of fuel in tank, sloshes around more when nearly empty:hihi:
you sound as good at golf as me lol

Didn't know the Sierra was computerised....

Mods, are you sure you moved this to the right place? :D :D

Sierra Fuel gauges are notorious (as are most Fords of a similar age)....I changed them in all the Sierras i had, in the days when you could still buy them from a Ford dealer for £12!
