I'm looking at letting my house out when i move, and wanting to do it through an agent rather than have all the hassle myself. Anyone have any useful info or experience of local letting agents either as landlord or tenant? The house is in S8.

As a previous tennant I can say Bloor and co were fantastic, and Blundells were useless. Bloor responded to every problem promptly and were always v easy to talk to - definately recommend them!

i can also vouch for bloor, being a current tenant of theirs. fees were a bit steep when we applied, but it's been worth it.
i also work for a letting agency in your area, our website link is in my signature.

Agree with Blundells, tried to sting us for an Inventory that didn't exist and even the landlord had to get involved to tell them there wasn't one

I know of a company called Property Partners based down in S6. They are a family run company and I have heard good things from a mate of mine who has rented through them recently.

May be worth checking out their website, it is www.propertypartnersonline.co.uk and I think that all the info about the company etc is on there.

Hope this helps.

Many thanks. Gives me a starting point at least. Will definitely check out Bloor since more than one person mentions it ... and then have a look at one or two of the others.

Ive used Reeds Rains they were useless, if you need to contact them you have to go through someone called manchester lettings who are the most useless, ignorant company ive ever come across

I currently rent from Globeline, cant say how exellent they are, they're prompt with answering queries, didn't cost the earth in admin fees and are generally a nice crowd of ladies to deal with

Couldnt agree more with the previous comments, I would recommend that everyone stays away from Blundells, they are unprofessional, incompetent and will sting you for every penny they can get!

Anyone know anything about Letwise? They've just let the house down the road from me.

Would agreed about Blundells - not that I've had anything to do with their renting bit - but experience of sales suggests they're pretty chaotic ....

Letwise- don't expect them to ever turn up when anything goes wrong- even emergencies. Do expect them to barge into your house when your'e not in, do set aside 6 hours to clean the house when you move in and then expect them to charge you 50 quid for them to dust a skirting board when you move out. Also don't bother hiring a carpet cleaner when you move out cause they will walk in mud when they show people around and then blame it on you. Also expect them to accuse you of stealing your own property and try to charge you for it.

We rented with Mike Jolly when we first came to Sheffield and they were exccellent, followed up on things quickly for us when things weren't working in the house, etc.

I have a poor experience of Mike Jolly's over the last 5 years.

Was what prompted me to finally take the plunge and buy!!!

Our experience with Letwise has also been rubbish. We moved into our current property 2 years ago, and the lawn had been left in a complete state by the previous tenants (2 feet high weed jungle!), and despite frequent phone calls/ letters from us they still haven't done anything about it (a professional gardener looked at it and said the only option is complete re-turfing, as it's 90% weeds and very little grass). They are incredibly slow to react to any problems, such as when we had water pouring down the wall from a fault in a pipe. The owner, Mark, is also very patronising - when I complained once that he had given people keys to our house and they had been round without our knowledge (completely breaking the tenancy agreement), he said that I was "splitting hairs". My advice would be to avoid them if at all possible!

I would also recommend Property Partners who are based in the Kelham Island area of Sheffield. As already stated they are a local family firm who were frustrated with the service they recieved from letting agencies as landlords and so started their own letting agency. They designed the service they offer based around what they wanted from a letting agency when they were landlords - including very reasonable transparent charges.

late in the day I know but have a look on the web site of ARLA - Association of Residential Letting Agents.

Also if you have an agent, check the wording on the contract - does it mention that they will or will not handle things in the event of a disaster?

Do not use Martin and Co, maybe just a bad experience, but after searching for properties and visiting their office asking for further info, I was told to wait where I had entered the office, not asked to sit down whilst they furtled for 15 mins for a plastic wallet with minimal details of a flat I didnt go for, as they wanted some ridiculous amount like £800 deposit for a crappy flat, then when I asked them about cheaper options they had scrawled doen on a wipeboard, that 'I couldn't have it'! A definite no no.

I'm suprised at the bad press Letwise are getting - I like them. Admittedly the thing with the garden I also experienced, but I sorted it myself in around 2 hours with a strimmer and a load of bin bags.

I would put my weight behind a "stay clear of Reeds Rains" though, without a shadow of a doubt they don't put the same effort into the rented side of their business.

I also like Crapper and Haigh

Only my personal views from experience.

Northern Apartments are terrible beyond belief. Total con merchants. They rip you off for everything and have yet to resolve any issue I have put forward to them. Useless

Do not use Martin and Co,

I would agree with this!! Was it Sheffield North or Sheffield South that you used in this instance?
