Has anybody else heard a low sort of humming noise around the west street area of sheffield today?
Sort of like a turbine or large extractor fan.
I work on the junction of rockingham street and broad lane,and the noise seems to be coming from the top of newcastle street,back of west street,it's been going on since at least 6.30 this morning,and has driven me mad all day(glad i don't live there!)
Also while i'm on about strange noises,there were two large explosion type noises AGAIN this morning around 8.30 ish.
We seemed to be plagued with odd sounds and such like lately,whats going on?:confused:

I heard have NASA (http://www.nasa.gov/externalflash/Anniversary_VisMar/index_noaccess.html) are building a launch pad underground....that explains the turbine, the bangs...? I dunno..:loopy: :loopy:

As soon as I read the title of this thread, I recalled the content of that past thread too :roll:

I live and work in the centre and despite popping home on a couple of occasions today I didn't hear anything unusual :suspect:

I did a search before posting,(honest)
This humming sound is really odd though,the nearer i got to it's source the less i could here it,think it was bouncing off the buildings,seemed to be coming from one of the university buildings just off mappin street.

West Street is humming 'cos it doesn't know the words.

Can't believe no one else noticed it,it was a really annoying drone (cue jokes) it went on all day non stop.
Wonder if they are doing something at the uni with it being half term?

Apart from large amounts of caffeine, nope.

Perhaps that's theproblem - no beer and no TV make Joe go crazy! :)

Its not the noise that comes from the Hallamshire is it? I know it can't usually be heard that far down.......

Think iv'e sussed it out,it looks like a new aircon unit on the side of the university dep't of chemical engineering building,walked past it today,it is louder where i work down the road,think the sound is resonating (sp)off our building, that's why it seems so loud further down,went up to west street and you can't hear it from there.
It is quite load and annoying,that's why i was surprised no one else heard it,but it does seem localised to the bottom of newcastle street.
Ps it is still going on today,but at least i know what it is now.
