Has anyone discovered how to stop AVG from bitching about components that have been intentionally disabled in v8? In v7 there is an option to not display notifications about particular components, but can't find it in 8.

Want to keep link-scanner off.. but means AVG is in a permanent Warning state.

I have the link scanner off as well and have the same message telling me so, I think it is more of a reminder not a warning otherwise why would they give you the option for on/off

Go to Advanced AVG Settings.
Select Appearance
Under Ballon Tray Notifications deselect System Tray Notifications.

Does that stop the problem?

Didn't work for me, there was only 2 options there to 'uninstall' - but I have all the components installed..

One way to hide the AVG icon (at least in XP) is to use the 'hide inactive icons' feature in the taskbar properties.

Right click on the taskbar.
Select 'properties' from the menu.
Click the 'customize' button next to the 'hide inactive icons' checkbox.
Click on the 'AVG Anti-Virus free' entry in the dialog box.
Select 'always hide' from the drop down menu.
Click OK.

Job done. :D
