View Full Version : 2nd Bank card on the same account
Mrs Hyde 03-05-2008, 13:39 I would like to have a second bank card (debit) to use just for the internet, ebay and such, just to keep putting a small amount in with no overdraft to pay for smallish items.
That way if i was phished it wouldnt be all my money gone (not that ive got a lot):)
does anyone know how easy this is to set up?
jellybellybean 03-05-2008, 13:45 Should be pretty simple, pop into your bank and it should be done within a matter of days!
I don't quite know how that would work - if it was a debit card on the same account, then surely if the card was compromised, they'd still have access to the account??
Perhaps something like (http://www.quiditycard.com/)this would fit the bill??
dan_999uk 03-05-2008, 15:18 Another alternative is Cashplus (http://www.mycashplus.co.uk) - either £4.95/month unlimited transactions or a £1 fee per transaction for less frequent use.
Why not just open a second account with the same bank.
I had one with the co-op just like that, linked to my PayPal account, had a debit card with it and if I needed to transfer money to PayPal from my main account, I'd just log into my bank, make a money transfer (immediate) from my main account to the secondary one, then use that to load PayPal or whatever.
But PayPal/eBay etc never had access to my main bank account - only I had that.
dan_999uk 03-05-2008, 16:08 Often current accounts will require a certain minimum amount to be transferred into them each month - in the current climate I would think banks would not want the expense of setting up an account for such limited use.
Why dont you apply for a credit card, there are no charges if you pay it off every month, and if things go wrong, as in you pay for something you dont get, then the bank gives you your money back.

Its not possible to have 2 cards on the same account for the same person. As others have said open a new account, you can get basic accounts which provide a debit card but no overdraft facilities and no minimum transfer limit to keep it open.
Also the idea of a credit card is good as its got mire consumer protection, the only thing with this is it can be tempting to go mad.

Yes know what you mean, but wouldnt the new card have a different number?
