As a bit of an Urban Explorer, I visited Beauchief ROC post recently - it's in a bit of a sorry state - and it got me wondering if anyone on here was part of the ROC, in particular, stationed at the posts in the Sheffield area.

I've got nothing but respect for anyone who volunteered to do that job...

Im sure most people are glad the threat of nuclear war has been minimised hence the closing of these ROC posts. I cannot imagine what it would have been like being in one of these post having to monitor radiation should a nuclear attack have happened. On a slightly different note, some years ago i was in a rotor bunker and it was a huge scarey place. It would be great if all these bunkers were preserved, sadley most have now been destroyed flooded or badly vandalised. There are a few remaining some are museums others still in millitary use etc.
