I keep trying to make them friends but everytime I put them together they go to one another sniff, and then go crazy! and all i see is a big black ball of fluff with biting and running and spinning aaargh! why can't they just get on?

I think they're both boys

Two boys together :nono: ,definitely not. It just doesn't work and they are guaranteed to fight and will probably end up killing one another. I suppose it's all that testosterone (or the rabbit equivalent).

If you want to keep two rabbits together then go for 2 does (females) but even then they have to be introduced to each other from the very beginning so that they grow up together.

Are they both grumpy old men rabbits or healthy young thangs? I used to have a rabbit which grew up alongside the nextdoor neighbors cat and they were friendly - I'm fairly sure its because they were introduced at a young age before any real terratorial/dominance behaviour would have come in. If they are young they may learn to tollerate each other (and it may well only be tollerate!) but if they are older they may fight full time all the time :(

there is a nice solution to make your rabbits friends, but it might offend some people (not the intention, before i get moderated) 1 pound of carrots 1 onion and lots of gravy.!!

Drill a hole in both rabbits foreheads! Screw in a three inch metal rod in to rabbit A. Screw in the other end of the rod in to the hole in rabbit B. And Hey Presto two rabbit who are never more than three inches appart, who are constantly looking into one anothers eyes and completely unable to attack each other. That should do the trick!:gag: :| :o

Another completely impractical and perhaps slightly cruel suggestion - you can get guinea pig/rabbit (depending on just how big the rabbits are!) sized versions of those hamster balls - let em run around in those and they wouldn't be able to have each others eyes out.

Or, get those rabbit 'leads', tie them to stakes at opposite sides of the garden and you've got happily roaming rabbits that can't reach each other. You might have to watch them all the time though because I think they can get caught up in them which would also make it a bit impractical.

Although they're not so big and deadly as bunnies i forced my gerbils to be friends by havin them live in the same enclosure separated by chicken wire down the middle then would swap the sides a couple of times a day so the other's scent was familiar and eventually they just chilled out and live together happily now.

You might try pinning some chicken wire down the middle of the hutch so that they can be in the same space, but seperate. They might just get used to the sight and smell of each other over time.

they always smell each other thru the cages anyway and one is old and one is young

You need to sex them two males will definitely fight. That said I kept a large female rabbit when I was a kid, she fought with anything that would stick around long enough to get at.

She saw off the neighbours dog a few times and bit my dad in the face! You may need to keep them seperate after all. If they are both the same sex you could swap one for the other sex (but neutered).

Oddly enough bunnies are just not cute little furry friends, they can be quite aggressive but I spose thats because they are communal and need to have social rules and pecking orders and stuff. How long do you leave them together for? They may just stop fighting and tolerate each other once they've established who's in charge. But if they are the same sort of age and build it may be bloody and pointless. Are they related? Siblings need to seperate to avoid inbreeding, so they will want to seek out other companions even if they are both the same sex. I suspect females are more tolerant of female relations and males are completely intolerant of other male relatives as they compete for breeding partners.

Personally I found mine got on best with our neighbours tabby cat. They used to sit in the sun on top of the hutch quite happily. She got Mixomatosis in the end from wild bunnies nearby - never had another too scary, have a pitbull now its easier.

There are some bunny lovers on the forum, you could start a thread on "wanted" for a swap or a rehome for one of yours. You could also try a google search, I've found some brilliant stuff about horse and dog natural handling and training. Someone out there will know if you have time to sift through and find the right sites.

And just ignore the pie jokes, they're so old they've died and gone to heaven, its not worth the yawn.

Hope you find a solution anyway. Watch your fingers!
