Yeah although I thought he would hit the post or the keeper would of saved it. Didnt think he was going to totally fluff it like he did. lol BasilRathbon 02-05-2008, 08:03 Just goes to show how unimportant the UEFA Cup has become if the final's to be contested by little-known teams from minor countries. If they want the competition to be taken seriously, maybe they should scrap the pointless group games and the admission of sides knocked out of the Champions League. When even Bolton Wanderers would rather field a reserve team and get knocked out than make it to the final, it must be obvious that reaching the final is little or no achievement! floyd77 02-05-2008, 09:40 Just goes to show how unimportant the UEFA Cup has become if the final's to be contested by little-known teams from minor countries. Yes Basil - I'm sure Bayern really just couldnt be bothered to beat Zenit because of the possiblity of embarrasment of getting into the final. Little known? Rangers? If I didnt know you were just trolling i'd be offended by your stupidity. Woo and indeed Hoo! Well done Rangers! None of the teams you mentioned have made it to the final. Likewise, on a European scale, both Zenit St Petersburg and Rangers are relatively little-known teams; one has never won a European trophy, the other hasn't won one since 1972. Therefore I'm still correct! Bayern Blade 02-05-2008, 14:13 Yes Basil - I'm sure Bayern really just couldnt be bothered to beat Zenit because of the possiblity of embarrasment of getting into the final. They gave us a hiding that's for sure. They may be "little known" but they have a fantastic team. Even given that we had an off day they ran rings round us last night and we had players of the quality of Toni,Ribery,Lucio,Kahn,Van Bommel,Klose,Lahm and Schweinsteiger out there.Frightening! They have also just started their season and are very fresh,we,like Rangers are coming to the end of a long hard season and it shows. Pograbynak will miss the final but Arshavin and the two full backs will return from suspension. At least we've done the double in Germany by way of consolation! NEKRO138 02-05-2008, 14:15 I saw Zenit play Leverkeusen in the first leg. They were SO fast! And a very good counter attacking team. Is this still open for discussion, `cos your sinking like a fat rat.? Heyesey 05-05-2008, 00:22 National teams that got their players from National Clubs Let's try this in words of one syllable, as far as possible, shall we? We are talking about league teams. And since it's the Uefa Cup, for which no national side ever enters or ever will, we're talking about league terms, not national terms. Venables 07-05-2008, 09:16 Let me try spell it out to you CLEARLY The top 4 leagues are England Spain Italy France I thought you had the German league in there before? Either way, your still spewing bile. Venables 07-05-2008, 09:16 No Russian club has ever won a European trophy. Let me try spell it out to you CLEARLY Please do. The top 4 leagues are England Spain Italy France In your opinion. This certainly isn't fact. After that are the countries i mentioned including Russia Below that are the MINOR countries leagues The fact that Russia have been in the finals of 4 European Championships which is more than any of the above mentioned with players from RUSSIAN LEAGUE TEAMS surely implies that the Russian league is NOT minor or crap or rubbish It implies nothing of the sort. Of the 54 Championships in the Soviet Top League's history, just four teams carved up 43 championships between them. Of those four, three (Dynamo Kiev, Spartak Moscow, and Dynamo Moscow) had 36 championships, and 33 runners up spots between them. Hardly strength in depth, is it? The Welsh League would be considered minor Surely you arent putting the Russian league on a par with the welsh More to the point, why are you creating 'divisions' of leagues? happyhippy 07-05-2008, 16:08 Actually we are arguing about someone one here saying that the 2 teams competing for the Uefa Cup this year are from MINOR counties And Russia is far from a MINOR country football related or otherwise And you're floundering around, waffling on about the performance of national sides in international competition, which has nothing to do with club football at all. Going back to Rangers, 10 of the 27 players with squad numbers aren't from Scotland. Over a third of the squad can't enhance the Scottish national side. Are you getting the picture now? By the same token, looking over the history of the UEFA Cup finalists' home country's records in European competition, these statistics come up. Scotland 3 wins - 2 Cup Winner's Cups, and a European Cup 6 finalists* - 2 CWC runners up, 2 UEFA Cup runners up, 1 EC runner up. Russia 4 wins - 3 CWCs, 1 UEFA Cup. 2 finalists* - 1 CWC runner up. * includes this year's UEFA Cup final's teams. Not much difference really, is there? Bull Dog 09-05-2008, 00:52 I think it's more the fact that you're spouting a spurious argument. In your opinion. This certainly isn't fact. Go on then Name a league Better than England Spain Italy France Lets see what your point is Bull Dog 10-05-2008, 03:57 That would be the USSR, not Russia. The USSR was known as Russia at the time u plank Bayern Blade 10-05-2008, 09:21 Go on then Name a league Better than England Spain Italy France I know that the Bundesliga has not been as strong as usual over the last 3 or 4 years, but I would still put it way ahead of France. Venables 10-05-2008, 09:38 The USSR was known as Russia at the time u plank Your useless. Venables 10-05-2008, 09:41 The USSR was known as Russia at the time u plank At the time of what? in5omniac 10-05-2008, 10:00 Bit of a farce really how a thread congratulating Rangers' progression to the Uefa Cup final turned into this so quickly. Now, I'm not really seeing any Spanish, Italian or French teams in European (Club team) finals this year, and the teams in the finals deserve to be there. happyhippy 10-05-2008, 12:49 And as we've now got to the point where inaccuracies are being coupled with insults, I declare this unfortunate episode closed. |
