I've looked around the forum but I''m still wondering about reasonably priced areas in the countryside. "Countryside" is foremost, along with price. Public transport to Sheffield is also a consideration. I gather that Deepcar might be along the lines I'm thinking. (I can't afford Dore.) My interest is in renting at first, while I get to know the area with a view to buying. Any ideas?

Even just using accessibilty to the countryside as a measure - are there places in Sheffield from which you can access the countryside on foot besides Ranmoor/Fulwood?

Ringinglow, Bents Green, Ecclesall.

For lower prices, what about Loxley?

If you want first rate countryside (not saying the other suggestions aren't) try the Hope Valley in the Peak District. There are some really nice places. There are trains from Grindleford, Hathersage, Bamford, Hope and Edale and its only about 25mins.

To buy is expensive but renting is very cheap because there's no buy-to-rent market. You'll have no problem finding a small cottage for £450 pcm and if you really look hard you'll find something even cheaper.

Best way to find them is looking in the post office windows in the villages.

Good Luck

Stannington is very handy for the countryside, there's some stuning scenery round there.

you have the Rivelin and Loxley valleys right on your doorstep, and very close to the peak district.

it's right on a hill, and you can see for miles. It's very nice. (oh, and it's very villagey, too!)
