View Full Version : The status of charles st
Connect4Fun 28-03-2005, 22:16 Please forgive me for being shockingly unobservent (and awful at spelling) but has charles st shut down? I went in there once, saw a guy polishing off a knife, walked out, banned myself and then went to republic.... was a shame really cos the music and layout was good!
yeah i'm not sure...it was such a shame when UG left there...great venue and it seems like sheffield could do with it at the minute. Last i heard it was a no-go area if you're unarmed!
has anyone checked out the D&B night there? is it still on?

What do you mean "polishing a knife"? Is that an expression or did he have a real knife and he was polishing it? I really despise the whole hip-hop "I'm part of a gang" culture.
theadore 29-03-2005, 13:13 surely if he was polishing his knife he would be far to concerned to stain it to actually use it for anything more messy than opening post...?
Agent Gypo 29-03-2005, 13:14 I vaguely remember some decent NTA night being at Charles St.
I have many vague memories.
carcrash 29-03-2005, 13:21 NTA used to do a trance night there on a Thursday
Agent Gypo 29-03-2005, 13:25 I didn't even know the place was still there either, it's been ages since I visited those parts. No real reason to go around there, Casbah is utter ****.
mjlacey21 29-03-2005, 13:27 If by the DnB nite that used to be there you mean Jungle Juice - I never liked it. The music wasn't bad but the fairly relaxed door policy meant that it was full of underage wannabe rude boys who thought they were something special. Was an absolute nightmare being female in there - it was like just hit puberty testosterone overload with little grabbing monkey hands all over the place. Ugh!
UG used to be a good night there, personally I preferred it in a smaller club with different rooms, but that's just me.
theadore 29-03-2005, 13:53 it did have a nice layout and just built feel... just unfortunate that the crowd and the nights weren't up to it.
oh i didn't mean jungle juice though i never went to that. I thought there was another one that started after Charles St was handed over. any ideas? sorry i can't remember the name.

I think he was kinda more admiring it than polishing it, either way its not what you want to see on a night out! If they got rid of the "I'm from south LA" type of people it would be a good club!
