View Full Version : How long before you give up hope?
keiran006 01-05-2008, 11:41 How long do you keep hoping an escaped snake will come back before you give up hope?
Willow's been gone over 6 weeks now. I've had every inch of the house upside down and looked in every possible gap, tried all the traps and stil nothing...
Is he dead now?
beansforyou 01-05-2008, 11:50 My corn snake went missing for 3 months, then one evening I went to fill up the kettle and he was in the sink! Talk about shock lol.
He had always been a good feeder so he'd only lost a bit of weight, was cold though so soon got him warmed up, and he was fine :)
keiran006 01-05-2008, 16:01 Well that's a ray of hope!! Thank you!
Willow is a Ball Python, so notoriously bad with his feeding, however I'd just settled him into a good routine and he was doing well.
Only thing is, the house is full of holes and nooks and crannies, he could be in the cieling, under the floor anywhere.
I really hope I find him in the sink soon. I miss my boy...

Plain Talker 01-05-2008, 17:21 On the news the other night, there was a story of a kid's pet newt that had been missing for ten months, and suddenly turned back up.
Not 100% sure that it's the self-same newt, they all look alike to me... lol hehehe
I had a corn snake that escaped for 6 months and turned up in next door neighbours attic. Scared them so much, he was fine but snappy and obviously hungry. I'm sure he must have fed himself on bugs and things.
Sooz also had a snake that disappeared for quite a while, can't remember how long for, that turned up in the garden.
carpetviper 02-05-2008, 11:09 yep i have known stories of them going missing for upto a year and being fine
 That's just ruined any chance of my mother ever allowing my sister to have a snake!
She'd have a heart attack if it turned up in the sink!
geckoqueen 02-05-2008, 12:11 I just wanted to add my good news stories - I've never permanently lost one yet.
My ghost corn is predictable - eventually he'll be under the kitchen sink (we used to have a mouse problem so that makes sense).
Oscar (my amel corn) on the other hand has been found wrapped around the iron (cold), he's destroyed a printer climbing through it and once I found him going back in the viv.
keiran006 02-05-2008, 15:40 Jesus it sounds like these little buggers can live through anything!!!
So lets say confidently that the chances of Willow being completely gone, or dead somewhere are slim unless he's got outside. But saying that, some people on that website said they'd found them in the garden or slithering across the road!!!
I'm a lot less worried about him being dead than I was, but terrified he's made it outside, cos it was wintery weather when he went, so if he's outside, his chances are very slim...
Thanks for all your hope anyway guys, I really miss Willow and would love to find him healthy and happy.
geckoqueen 02-05-2008, 16:05 To be honest, I always try to remember that all animals - including pets - have a survival instinct. If they can find a way out then I'm sure if its cold they'll find a way back in.
I just read my last post, I should point out that I haven't had that many escapes, lol. They are secure.
