wetwummit 30-04-2008, 08:33 PM Hello I have a retired greyhound who is always on the lead, but he as just started to show an interest in playing. Would love to be able to let him off the lead in an enclosed area (high fences and no means of escape!!) so he can have a safe run or a play, I live in the Aston area but can travel no problem. If anyone knows of anywhere i would be most grateful if you could drop me a line Thanks Nev and his mummy!!!
all i can think of is tennis courts? like at millhouses and hillsborough.
medusa 30-04-2008, 09:03 PM There's a field just outside Loxley that is almost totally enclosed and where lots of sighthound owners take their beasties. Is that the sort of thing you were meaning?
vikki 30-04-2008, 09:29 PM hillsborough isnt really enclosed. the fields opposite loxley nursary are pretty enclosed although i would go mid morning as there is an afterschool club there in the evening. and there are some possible escape routes if his recall is generally ok i would go there if there is no recall i wouldnt reccomend it.
anna293 30-04-2008, 09:53 PM the field at loxley are all surrounded by sheep at the moment so a definate no no as they arnt fully secure and even with a 4ft ish wall if they want a greyhound will jump it, i know my lot could easily, we used to hire an indoor riding school for the greyhounds before we trusted them offlead to see how their recall was. also the tennis courts at graves park were secure not sure if they are still now. anna.x.
wetwummit 01-05-2008, 11:02 AM Thanks so much for all replies i have only had my gorgeous greyhound for 5 weeks so am really grateful for all the help and advice. will certainly try the indoor riding arena we have a large stables behind us and never thought to ask many thanks again lisa and nevxx
anna293 01-05-2008, 12:32 PM great, and make sure you have someone with a camera a there is nothing more beautiful than seeing a greyhound run and play for pleasure, not on a track. anna.x.

I love seeing ours off the leash but can't trust him if not totally enclosed, he might not run to far but he gets there quickly.
I would argue that a greyhound running around the track is also a thing of beauty and they seem to enjoy it as well.

katkin 01-05-2008, 08:36 PM Did you see the afghan hounds racing around a track somewhere in Liverpool (it was one of the features on Crufts in March). I thought they were stunning. LKnow what you mean about seeing them run- our dobermutt looks fab when she's running across a beach like the horse on the Lloyds TSB ad (but then, dobes did have a bit of greyhound mixed in when they were being created...)
Hope you manage to find somewhere to run - I'm surprised someone with an enclosed field hasn't clocked on that they could make a bit of money renting it out by the hour to people with dogs...
wetwummit 02-05-2008, 08:00 PM oh i did see those afghans @ crufts they looked so happy on the track what a great idea, i agree about the field rental opportunity not only for greyhounds but for maybe training classes , agility etc i know i would pay if i could guarentee some safe off the lead time for my pooch, any would be alan sugars out there let me know!!

Molly loves the after school club kids and they queue up to throw her ball for her. She's been there this afternoon and loves nothing better than some children to fawn over!
