We've recently acquired a dog :D and I would like to know if there are any books with routes for short (ish) walks around Sheffield and in Derbyshire and The Peak District. I'm thinking about 5 miles or so, and it would be nice if there was a pub on the way or at the end that allows dogs.;)

There's loads! A good website to check out is here (http://walkingbritain.co.uk/walks/select_walk.php) - Walk Britain. It lets you choose your national park, or search by area, and you can pick what grade of walk you fancy.

Have a look through the Sunday walk threads on here too - these usually involve a pub or at least a cafe, and most are dog-friendly.

The website is great, thanks for that. Be nice to have a book though with them all in together instead of having loads of bits of paper hanging around.

If you look on Amazon and search for "short walks + derbyshire", you get quite a few... the Peak District Leisure Walks one is quite good, you can do without an OS map with that one.

I started out with a book called 'Family Walks', published by The Star ISBN 1 85284 257 1

It grades walks by distance and difficulty, and was my first introduction to proper walking in the peaks. You should still need to use an OS map, as the route illustrations are not to scale, but I found it an excellent introduction.

Good luck :)
