Last week we were in Leicester looking around the market there, and on a stall were these black leather cowboy hats for thirty quid.


Now, Ive always wanted a brimmed hat and the hats there looked perfect so I asked my OH if I should get one.

She cackled like some harridan at a gillotine and said it would make me look an even bigger twot than I actually am, and she said that I COULD get one if I really insisted, but she wouldnt be walking along with me and any kids or drunks who saw me would probably yell "Ride `em cowboy" or "Wheres yer horse?"

I said I didnt mind that, because at the end of the day I could always bite out their windpipes but she put her foot down and said "NO! You cant have one because youd look daft!"

Tell me, poppets, are hats passe? Would the sight of a bloke in a black leather wide brimmed hat illicit any tresponses from you?

There was a time, and probably still is, when cowboy hats were popular among the rock community. Rockers would tie scarves around the hats and wear leather jackets with tassles on them, in the style of Bon Jovi. That was the 80s. You don't see many (any?) doing that now.

I think they are great, my husband looks sexy in his. And - a cowboy hat is good protection from the sun. But there again, I live in Australia

I see Jabbers is a bit worried about the connection between ' Brokeback ' and wearing a big cowboy hat. But, surely, even Jabbers won't ONLY be wearing a cowboy hat ? Well, unless Leicester has changed a lot since I minced through it ? [ oops ! ]

Now if he did decide to throw discretion [ and his briefs ] to the wind and parade around his locale only in a cowboy hat, no doubt he MIGHT attract unwanted and unwelcomed attention. Like Napoleon, he might have to take rearguard action. However this is where the hat could come in handy. He could quickly whip it off and swat whoever was creeping and sniffing round his environs.

As an alternative he could cover his attractive bits up in the first place [ Hats don't HAVE to be worn on the head ].This would deter those evil people who prey on innocent men who only want to air their feelings and let everything hang out. Where has our live-and-let-live society gone to, these days ?

my late hubby bought a cowboy hat [not a leather one though]when he was ill with cancer he had never said before he fancied a cowboy hat but then when he knew he had not got a long time to live he just wanted a lot of things he hadnt had and done and also wanted things he had in his younger days

he always wore the hat and was never without it until he died, his picture with him in the hat is on my computer when it comes on as my background picture and also on my wall, his beloved cowboy hat was burried with him

Im in the middle of no where here, its not as if many people are going to see me as I stride through the countryside, theres the occasional deer and the odd startled sheep but thats about all.

Next time Im in Leicester Im going to get one, actually I might have a look around Coalville the next time Im there (Next week) but I doubt if Ill find any there because Coalville has nowt worth buying.
