a good will gesture from me.

to the 10,000 plus wendy who will be going to there first game this season as the club are desperate and letting you in on the cheap. heres how to get there.

Directions

Leave the M1 at Junction 36 and follow the A61 into Sheffield. Continue along the A61 for approximately eight miles. You will come to view the sty on your right. This is not the shortest route to the ground, but this is definitely the easiest and avoids Sheffield City Centre which is usualy full of blades. There is some street parking to be had if you arrive early, otherwise there are some unofficial car parks along the A61 that charge in the region of £3.
'There is a car park directly behind the Kop and the Wendy Club shop. It is called the pinky perky car park and is open to fans of both teams. It costs £5 for visitors'.

By Train

Sheffield Railway Station is situated in the town centre, two miles from the ground. Either get a taxi up to the ground or the bus station is a one minute walk from the railway station. Cross over at the pedestrian crossing, and avoid rolling around in the mud follow the signs. Head for the far side of the terminus. Bus no. 53 to Ecclesfield runs regularly to the ground (every ten minutes), as well as numbers 77 & 80 (every 15 minutes), the journey time is about 30 minutes. if arriving by train, by far the easiest way to get to the ground is by tram, which run every ten minutes during the day. Leaving the station on a blue tram, you can either change to a yellow one in the city centre, which takes you to Leppings Lane (right by the ground), or stay on the blue one to the sty, which is 10 minutes walk to the ground'. The journey time of the tram is around 20 minutes. on matchdays regular shuttle buses run from the road at the far side of the bus station They are marked pig fans'.

to keep in accordance with the regular supporters could you mainly remain quiet but occasionally break out into the club anthem which goes

de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de de
wendy.

hope you enjoy the game and the club will look forward to seeing you again in another 10 years. or when they become desperate again.

paid 12 quid a game for my young un this season. 2 quid more than you're adults are paying sunday.

being serious tho for a sec. its about time you're club did something decent for the fans. our club gave up to 7,000 freebies away for the middlesbro cup game and let all kids in under 12 free last week accompanied with an adult. my youngest is nearly 15 so did'nt benefit myself. but it was nice to see all the future blades enjoying themselves.

just a pity only part timers benefit tho. season tkt holders have already paid up front. but i suppose if there true pigs they should'nt mind. try and get the young uns hooked.

Brilliant use of statistics. I like the way you've removed the away fans from your average gate last season (and I'm pretty sure that the average Premiership away following, even at your hole, would have been more than 2k and nearer 3k), but still included them in this season's average and hoped nobody would notice. Have you ever thought of going into politics?!

Whichever way you look at it, you've had a drop in your crowds, apros po achieving a number of gloryhunters. And ask yourself how many would still be coming if most of them hadn't renewed their season tickets when you were 10 points clear of relegation!

He may not have put his view across properly, he probably means the PL brings an extra 2,000 fans

So he still leaves the 1,000 away fans in BOTH figures of 25,500 and 28,500. Had he not, the figures would have been 24,500 and 27,500

But yes, we have received a drop in numbers coming to watch games. This could be neutrals who wanted to see PL football, this could be glory hunters who have decided not to come back. Either way it was expected we would have a loss in fanbase, but its nowhere near as many as "some" anticipated.

Robbie Loving

Rob, where has he left the away support from 25,500? What is your average this season?

The reference of a drop of 2k is where PL teams bring EXTRA fans. So instead of 3k coming, only 1k might.

So our average attendance would be approx 24,500 home fans this season, but last season without the away fans it was probably about 27,600

I know we shouldn't bait, but it's a good point, but one which I think has two vastly differing opinions.

None of the fairweather mob would have turned up without a price reduction, but they have been right royally shafted pricewise (and performancewise) for a hell of a long time.

when we have had support from visitors this year ie wendy, bristol, hull, barnsley we have been round the 29,000/30,000 mark. but still managed to average 25,500 with the likes of colchester, burnley, blackpool being in town.

Once again some posters on here are out of touch with reality....mostly you lot from S2, who I think are showing a little jealousy at Wednesday getting the biggest championship crowd of the season....I'm right are'nt I girls ?
Now how can any knowledgable football supporter not understand the concept of 'part time' fans ? How did the Sheffield clubs muster over 70,000 down to Wembley in 93..without part time fans ? and so on !
Loyal supporters...every club has them they are not exclusive to either side in this city and likewise the part timers....without them neither club would ever fill their grounds again, so no bragging rights could be acknowledged on this forum or anywhere else. In reality SWFC have made a good move reducing the prices to fill the ground on Sunday, and who can blame anyone for taking up the offer..that was the idea ! I know many people will probably take their kids..some for the first time...so what ! No shame in that whatsoever ! Get over it my piggy chums !

Get over it my piggy chums !

when we have had support from visitors this year ie wendy, bristol, hull, barnsley we have been round the 29,000/30,000 mark. but still managed to average 25,500 with the likes of colchester, burnley, blackpool being in town.

What you argues was that you got an average of 30,000 last year, and if you take off the average away attendance last year (you said 2000) that gave you the average number of home fans - 28,000.

This year you have averaged 25,000. But you havene't taken off the average number of away fans this year (probably near 2000 again) in order to get the average number of home fans this year (probably around 23,000).

So you have lost around 5000 fans from last year.

That we stayed in the league? Highest average attendance. More wealth. More power. Better squad. Big future.....

The Owls, well the only thing they have is a possible takeover and possibly staying in this league.

I'll give you highest average attendance, the others are all relative - 10/15 years ago we had more wealth, better players etc - thats just a fact of life it'll go full circle again.
It must still hurt that all the boasting of instant promotion, easy 6 points etc just haven't happened. No matter how much is made of our own financial distress - we didn't make those type of predictions.

I have to admit I'm looking forward to a great atmosphere and a full house.

But (here he goes) it does leave a little bit of a bad taste.

Primarily because of the season ticket price increase. Wednesday may (possibly although I can't confirm it to be true) announce 'we had a full house so there can't be a problem with our pricing policies'. Season ticket holders were going to protest at this game - Wednesday have been (although they may not have been - it's just a guess) very cunning in ensuring a full house of part timers which will nicely hide any demo by regulars. Very cunning. (Alledgedly - although this may not be true).

And it's bad that we have struggled to top 20,000 all season, and at the point where we might just be safe, 10,000 extra fans appear.

Where were they all season? 10,000 fans getting to 10 games each at £20 a game is £2million quid for the club. A nice slice off the debt, an increased wage budget, even a new signing, Billy Sharp was £2m (ok bad example :hihi:).

And we aren't safe yet - one of 5 teams still in trouble. These occasions have a habit of biting us on the arse through complacency!

I know Wednesday aren't unique in having these part timers - all teams have them. And some of them have good reason to be part timers.

But hopefully some of them will see that regular attendance can make a massive difference.

UTO.

You seem a little cynical fs, probably with good cause, but I think that it was still a good move on Wednesday's part to lower prices for this game.
Apart from a crowd this size being the 12th man, it could catch a few future supporters.
Plus the profit from everyone buying a pie and a pint.:hihi:

Part timers day out, pity they give woodwork fans discounts then whack £50-£100 on the season ticket of a die hard.

Sell out, great. Means I'll have to jump in a taxi from town half an hour early to get through the traffic

Want to retract the part timer statement, after talking to few "part timers" in the New Bridge on Sunday after the match it made me realise it's the boards fault for simply charging too much.

I accept that many can't attend every match and therefore a season ticket isn't viable (Not viable for anybody next season). then I can't fault them for refusing to fork out 25 quid a pop for football which for 90% of the time is complete bob.

With the additions of kids, travel and food many simply can't afford it. So who can fault them for turning up when Wednesday decided not to screw the fans over for a week.

Anyway at £446 for a season ticket on the North, I'm now a part timer. Will just attend every away match that I can get hold of a ticket for next season.

Missed 3 this season, more like 26 next season, cheers Kaven, the one thing in life I enjoy most and you shaft me up the bum, cheers

Say what you want about the extra 10000 fans, but what it boils down to was this - Wednesday made an effort to get fans through the doors, and the fans responded. To get that many fans through the door, you have to have the fans in the first place, casual supporters or not.

Do you want to remind us how many blades fans turned up for the Middlesborough game when you GAVE AWAY FREE TICKETS? Thats right, free tickets to see their beloved blades play against a Premiership team? Surely they sold the stadium out, didn't they?

amate of mine pig (yes i have 1 or 2) has been to 1 game all season blackpool away and only then cos it was a lads weekend on the lash. norwich game he took wife (1st game against her will) and 3 kids who were allowed to take some toys to play with. cant get any more casual then that.

middlesbro game on the thursday before the game (sunday) united decided to give away 7,000 tickets to the first 7,000 who had already bought a ticket. i only found out because i saw it on the united web site. i rang round my pals and not one of them knew about it. in fact the only reason you know is because i told you on here and every one else who read my thread. as for the reason people didnt go down and get one was because they had already got one or they did'nt have a friend who had got one or maybe because it was live on tele (the same reason you give for not selling yours for the derby) perhaps heysay can answer you on that one. anyhow i was there and also at middlesbrough for the televised replay. :)

are you not the person who told someone today to stop making stupid post's and stay on the thread topic ?valid point was how you put it.

I don't think there is anything wrong with humourous banter.

My issue with Unregistered is that he continually starts threads/makes posts without EVER raising a valid opinion (i.e. starting a thread 'Will Wednesday be relegated next season' - a pointless thread as no one knows what the situation at Hillsborough next season will be until we reach next season, and Unregistered starts it off with no actual opinion of his own, and then contributes with posts like 'too many players are fat' which is in no relation to anything else on the thread. What is the point in that?).
