Following on from the archive topic of Victoria station..
I believe the The Wadsley Bridge station sign is on the wall of the John Fairest funeral home. Nice to see it preserved.
On a walk in Beeley woods a couple of years a go I noticed all sorts of rubbish on the tracks, including a motor bike!
Makes me wonder how regular the 'steel trains' to stocksbridge are? They must need a look out in front of the train!

They should tarmac it over for cars only.

They should put the track back into full use as an alternative to get to Manchester and beyond.
Heard that they may be re-opening it but won't hold my breath.
Opening the line is not a trivial task!
There would have to be a lot of money put in for new track, bridges, etc.
A new station in Sheffield, and probably at a site other than Victoria, as that's not a part of town where people want to go to catch a train! It would need a route into the Midland Station or maybe a new station at the bottom of town.
You'd also have the environmental lobby against the idea of re-driving the line through Longdendale.
It's a nice idea, but probably not practical.

PS: Best idea I've heard is using it to link the light rail systems in Sheffield and Manchester. Again probably too much cash.

They've got the cash alright but will only spend it on road - hence £1.2 billion for an extra lane on the M1 car park.
The government is spending the cash where it will benefit the most people. The M-Way is used by millions of people a year from all over the country. Woodhead would benefit those people who live on the route between Wadsley and Padfield.
Anyone who wants to go from town to Manchester can do so via Chinley. It's not great but does the job!
