Just a quick question please as I want to block someone in msn messenger.

Before I do..will they know I've done that/do they get notified somehow? If so, is there a way of blocking so they dont realise?

I know I can opt to be 'offline' but then that means no-one can see me...i think??

Thanks

if you block someone you always appear offline to them.
At the point you block them you are immediately reported to have gone offline, as if you logged off in disgust.

If you block someone they never find out about it, unless you both know the same person and they ask them if your online, so no need to worry, you evil evil person.

Cheers for that Cyclone - its not quite disgust I'm avoiding tho!

Dont think I'll have the problem you mentioned nslack so my evilness will not get found out...

*goes off to do some blocking*

If you really want to annoy someone (If your really evil :D ) you block them and unblock them continuously in a row for however long you like, messenger constantly tells them your signing in.

Be careful though, excessive use can freeze your PC for a few seconds, be aware kids!

unless the person your blocking uses the block-checker on www.mess.be to check if you've blocked them ;)

that siteAaah, now this is what I call a Frequently Asked Question: "Who is blocking me on MSN Messenger?". My two cents: don't get them to block you in the first place ;)

Anyway, there used to be several techniques you could deploy to find out if you're being blocked or not. Some required MacGuyver techniques, others were as simple as a mouseclick. The bottom-line, however, is that Microsoft fixed a privacy bug (in an effort to outsmart Instant Messaging spam or SPIM) and now there's NO FOOL PROOF METHOD anymore to find out who blocked you on MSN Messenger. Every single block checker out there can not make a distinction between a contact that is offline or a contact that has blocked you.

Moreover, we STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST using online block checkers for MSN Messenger because we've seen some efforts collecting e-mail addresses for commercial mailinglist reasons (read: SPAM).

The most efficient way now to find out someone's blocking you is through social engineering: find a mutual contact (a friend, collegue or family member on both your contact list and the suspected blocker's) and find out (as subtle as possible) if he or she is online or not.

Any site you type any email address in is capable of storing it for spam, how many times do you read the 6,000 page long, typed in a font smaller than my purse, Terms, before you click ' I Agree' ?

As for finding out who has blocked you, I just stick by one rule, Don't care!

If people don't wanna talk to you, or vice versa, then who cares, theres millions more out there that probably will :D

Unless they've turned off that feature
I was getting annoyed by constant pop ups by indecisive types who kept changing their name every five minutes, so found an option to stop that :)

If you block someone it just shows the person that you blocked that you have gone offline, however there is software and devices that you can have to show if someone has blocked you or not :)

Whilst they fixed the bug that sorted out the blocking feature, there are still versions of msn where you can tell if they have deleted you from their list. So if you dont want someone to know that you are blocking them, dont delete them from your contact list.
