I'm trying to set u pa wireless access point to communicate with my laptop, but it's just not happening.
I have my Netgear ME102 Access Point plugged into my D Link DL 604 Router, if I enter the SSID name that is printed on the reverse of the AP into the Wireless Network Connection Properties set up box on the laptop, the laptop says it recognises the wireless network, connection strengh is Excellent and it's connected at 11.0 Mbps. But when you look at 'Activity' it has sent Packets but received is at 0. And when I try to connect to the net it has no connection.
Another problem is that the driver for the ME 102 worn't load, I've followed the installation instructions perfectly but it doesn't want to recognise the drivers, so I can't access the control panel to configure the AP (not that I'd really know what I was doing if I could!).
Can anyone help me?!!

might sound a bit daft, but have you gone through the network connection wizard in windows?
Just wondered if it's not recieving any data it could be because the network doesn't know it's there yet..
Nope, that doesn't sound daft, I'm a Mac chap normally so networking a PC is all new and slightly annoying to me! I'll see if I can figure anthing out in there, ta...
Went through the Wizard, the Network Connections window now says that it's connected, but still no net access I'm affraid.
I don't know if Netgear Routers work the same as mine but mine will say it is connected at 100% with an excellent signal strength. Then you have to open the Router's home page and connect it to the internet.
It looks like you just have to find a way of opening the home page.

yeah,
goin from what vidster said, when I set up my router (wired) I had to connect to the manufacturers IP Address (something like 10.000.09) for example.
In the instructions there should be a user name & password which is the same for them all (like username = netgear, password = Router), once you've logged in you must alter these otherwise anyone could get access.
You can then alter all/any settings you want, and run a check to make sure everythings working ok.
Not sure if it will work but try connecting to your Router's home page using it's ip address. I 'think' it should be 192.168.1.1
Once at the home page it should just be a question of inserting your email address and password and selecting connect (well it is on mine anyway)
[EDIT] Just like beansforyou suggested
I don't know if this will help but i've a wireless router and it doesn't let any wireless device connect to it until it's know the MAC address of the wireless device to trust. This can only be done using a network cable the first time as it trusts wired devices.
I've not used a wireless access point like the one you describe but it probably has the same security settings and like someone else suggested it probably has an ip address that you connect to for setting it up.
O yeah, a word of warning. When you've got it working see about setting up WEP encryption otherwise anyone local can listen in.
With the DL604 the best way to access it is via an rj45 cable. set the tcp/ip to acquire IP addresses automatically.
Log into internet explorer and type http://192.168.1.1.
user name for dlink is admin
default password = admin
the default wireless ssid = G604T_wireless (you do not really need to enter anything else.
the rest is self explanatory.
Good luck

for the Netgear I used last year - till it crashed after 2 months, and the USA help line couldn't solve it. Thanks to PC World exchanging I now use Belkin, straight out of the box no hassle!

I set one up yesterday and it did not work. 2 things stopped it. First was the button that swithes wireless on on the laptop, this did not come on as default. The second was the windows firewall stopped all access! It did not offer access but after switching it off it worked fine.
I felt a reet spaz!
