Hi all I'm a newbie here, and also in Sheffield.

Well I'm not even in Sheffield yet. At the moment I'm living in Thailand where I've been for the last 3yrs teaching English to kids of various ages spending most of my time in the craziness that is Bangkok. I've never lived anywhere like it and doubt I will again. Ho hum.

I'm just about to start a new chapter in my life. About a month ago my girlfriend discovered she was pregnant, I instantly ditched her and decided to run away to Sheffield....haha no thats a joke, all is good. Her brother lives in Sheffield working as a teacher. I've decided to enroll on a course at Hallam doing my nurse training so I can finally get a real career started.

Why Sheffield?? well all of her family live in Yorkshire. I'm from Devon and we met in Bath where we lived for 10yrs previous to our trip to Thailand. We looked at buying a place in Bristol that also does a 2yr dip course in nursing and discovered that for the same money we could get a 1 bed flat in Bristol or a 3 bed house in Sheffield, so no contest there. Also I'm quite up for living somewhere new. Bath can get a bit tiresome and Sheffield looks like a fun place to spend a few years. Although raising a young family etc I might be putting more stock in to it than anything I have ever done before.

Anyway thats me Jannerboy, happy to be acquainted with any of you. We hope to be getting to Sheffield by about July. :)

Welcome to the Forum

I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as you'll enjoy Sheffield when you get here.

Mind you, the weather's likely to be one hell of a shock to your system!

I spent a weekend in Sheffield before moving up from Birmingham. I immediately went home and sold my bicycle and bought several sets of thermal underwear instead.

Luckily, the warmth of the people makes up for the cold/wet weather.

Yeah we're just getting to the end of the really hot season here, about 34C in the day and over 30C at night!! The wet season is coming upon us but we'll be missing the worst of that, unless of course there is a repeat of last summer.

Yes I am also an avid cyclist and am looking forward to freezing me tits off on rainy winter days, wistfully thinking back to the days of flip-flops, shorts and vest in December.
