Anyone had any experience of using silverligh with firefox. Wow what a resourec hungry programme.

My lappy isn't the best (1gig Processor, 512mb ram, 8 mb graphics) but when I tried to watch something on ITV catch up yesterday it just maxed out all the resources on mi lappy. Any ideas why that is at all anyone??

but it would with only 512 of ram.you require more ram and possibly a faster processor

When I tried to watch something with no tabs open it used ~50mb of memory and varied between 10-25% CPU utilization. And my PC is pretty old also.

what would be best would be for all the TV companies offering these services to use a common format and have an open source downloader/player which can be put on any platform, otherwise you'll end up with a player per broadcaster, and there are hundreds of broadcasters

it's a bit like having one tv but a seperate tuner for each station you want to watch

Technically though, Silverlight is superior to Flash.
