Does anybody know of any groups of people who like playing multi-player videogames together? My other half is moving to Sheffield soon and we both have a passion for videogames. In his hometown he had plenty of friends to play with and a mate of his ran a LAN/gaming cafe for a while. I don't know if there's anything similar here or if we could set up a group? Maybe take it in turns to host? Anybody interested?

Thanks but that's really quite different to videogaming. I have enjoyed things like Magic The Gathering in my childhood but we're specifically looking for people to play VIDEOGAMES with.

I read that as 'We have Patriot games' = 'There's a group that play Patriot games' . 'Very friendly bunch' = 'The group who play are friendly'.

When you google 'patriot games' info about the genre comes up. I didn't realise you meant a shop!

It's hard to understand when you know the context and I don't, sorry!
I'll check it out.

Just to clarify... In Sheffield town center there is a shop called Patriot Games, it covers most gaming genres, CCG,Miniature and roleplay. The second floor is all PC based on-line and LAN video gaming, pay by the hour. The people who play there are a good crowd.

buy guild wars, play from home, saves you alot of money.
If you do decide to buy it and play, gimme a shout Doc Ado is my char name.
We have a community on their, and if you use vent, you got a community centre in yer room.
Needless to say it beats the hassle of transfering pc's from a to B, and is cheaper than the travel costs to town and £1 an hour gaming fee.

We both have laptops (his a mac) which aren't best suited to gaming, he has a computer at work for when he really wants to play a PC game. We both have Xbox Live subs so can play online whenever we want but we're looking for real live people who might enjoy playing and socialising as well. When I worked at Game in my hometown we'd all get together and have a night of beer and gaming at somebody's house which is far more enjoyable than shouting at some stranger in America who says 'your mother is a black homosexual' a hundred times then quits when he's losing!
Maybe I need to be clear, I'm talking about 360, PS3, Wii etc gaming, where people can gather round one big tele and play multiplayer games, rather than PC gaming. I'd never dream of moving a PC to someone elses house, I'd be happier to carry a Wiimote!

Maybe 'he', or I as is now the case, should make an appearance and clarify the scenario.

I will shortly become a Sheffield n00b, and will be moving here in about a month. I will be bringing with me an Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and assortment of other shiny things with controllers. I'm wondering if there are any groups of people who have get-togethers that involve evenings of multiplayer Halo, FIFA, Wii Sports, Gears of War, Guitar Hero and that sort of thing over plenty of beer and an assortment of sweet and savoury snacks. Also I need some willing-to-play friends to justify the insane price of Rock Band.

My 'PC' is actually a MacBook Pro running Vista under Boot Camp which will play some games but isn't ideal for anyone planning to suggest LAN Crysis. Whilst I plan to visit Patriot and anywhere else for the occasional blast on FPS and RTS games, PC gaming really isn't my thing, and I have no interest at all in MMORPGs or J-RPGs, the latter because I hate random battles and turn-based fighting, and the former because my backlog is so big that I can't possibly justify playing any game that will take up that much of my time.

So basically what it boils down to is does anyone want to get drunk and play Halo and Wii Tennis with me?

Hi Zomoniac, I'm pretty much in exactly the same boat. I moved to sheffield with my wife last year, I'm into gaming, pretty much the same games as you too (except for Fifa - I'm a Pro Evo man) and I'd love to find a gaming group of some sort for just this sort of thing, there's book groups, why not gaming groups??

If it doesn't exist already, perhaps we can get something together on this board.

Any gamers fancy joining a gaming group?

Huzzah! Well, that's 2 of us (plus wor lass, which is 3), which is a start. I was a die-hard Pro Evo-er from whenever FIFA started getting bad (99 I think, World Cup 98 was the last old good one), which would be ISS Pro 2 on PSOne sort of era, up until 2006 when FIFA 07 came out and was actually good. FIFA 08 is such a huge improvement that it makes PES08 look like the old, tired cash-in that it really is. Until they (Konami) pull their finger out, I'm officially an EA boy now :) (I never, ever thought I'd say that).
