So after careful consideration I've decided we should try and evict little lady before she is induced.

So I am after all wives tales and ideas for natural inducing.

Come on join the mission :)

I have heard lots of people recommend pineapple although I am not sure why.

Curry is another hot favourite (sorry:))

Having sex is supposed to ripen the cervix too, so get your partner involved.

There are a few ideas here

Best of luck :)

Can we add all sorts of traditional ways of getting babies to be the right way round? I think that would help in the 'getting her out' stakes.

I swigged half a bottle of castor oil with 2 & 3, which was absolutely the most revolting thing I've ever tasted, but my waters popped within 24 hours, 1 hour 20 minute labours with both of them! lol. I only did it 4 days before my due date though

I asked the professor about eating curry and if it would work and she just said "No, but it will give you plenty of diarrhoea". ;)

I asked the pharmacist about castor oil and she told me it can be quite dangerous, so that one's out. I did bring home some raspberry leaf tablets to try though, perhaps swigged down with a mouthful of vindaloo :)

Little more invasive than raspberry leaf tea but worked for me twice; Cervical sweep.

Raspberry leaf tea, not the stuff in sachets but proper dried raspberry. 4 cups a day - steep one heaped tablespoon in boiling water for 15 minutes. It used to bring on BH contractions 20 minutes after ingestion!

Sitting on the gym ball, right on your bits and rolling your hips, I reckon it brings the head down.

Brisk walks if you can.

Oh, i wonder why? I was told castor oil is only dangerous for pregnant women to use, as it "can bring on labour" so i guess it would be dangerous using it too early. Like i said, i only did it 4 days before due date. Told midwife after, she just said "oooo you're so naughty" but never mentioned it being dangerous.

The way I understand it, it works by causing diarrhoea and the muscle spasms in the bowel set off your uterus muscles. But that can cause distress to the baby by making you dehydrated, and especially in our case that would be bad (Olliekitten is still spending quite a while each day being sick, so I think she's dehydrated enough!)

I was told by an elderly lady when i was having my first baby, caster oil and orange juice mix together and drink, i tried a bit and didn't like the taste, but i have heard a few people who tried it, i was told it would just make the baby slippy when born, so hopefully they slide out.

I tried the castor oil, weird teas and loads more, but it just succeeded in making me feel ill.

I didn't think being induced was such a bad thing, as I was in hospital for the whole labour, so got my epidural in straight away. The knitting needle thing, is not as bad as it sounds either.

i spent a few days bouncing on an excercise ball and then got really sick of waiting so after about 5 days I did a solid hour on it whilst watching tv etc and then started dancing to bros when they suddenly came on mtv. I was so excited I started dancing manically (which I hadn't done for a while at that point!) and within half an hour I went into labour. I know I was a few days over, but I swear it was the couple of hours bouncing and dancing that did it! x

No-one knows how the cascade of events that trigger labour actually start, although a lot is known about the events involved.

-Anything that gives you the squits is extremely unlikely to trigger labour in itself unless the squits are so serious that your body goes into panic mode and tries to expel the babby as fast as possible to minimise any harm to either of you, and that's hardly a great thing to do. It's also possible that women who do resort to taking concoctions that squitify their innards subconsciously know they're about to pop anyway. The logic behind emptying your bowels to start labour is twofold - firstly, women in labour tend to evacuate anyway, and secondly, the innervation to the gut is loosely linked to the innervation of your uterus walls (so when you're in labour, the signals from your uterus trigger the gut emptying, but there's no good evidence that it works the other way around.

-raspberry leaf tea makes you have strong contractions, but doesn't trigger any of the events involved in natural labour.

-semen contains prostaglandins, which loosen the plug in your cervix, and could lead to you having a show. Having a show doesn't mean you're about to have a baby imminently (I had a show nearly 3 weeks pre-babybaby), but *may* be one of multiple factors that trigger labour. So have sex.

-hot baths - don't scold yourself trying, obviously, but this is another way of stressing your body a little so that it encourages your body to push sprog out.

-oxytocin - is given to ladies to induce them. Induced labours aren't as comfortable (so I've heard), because oxytocin isn't the first step in naturally establishing labour. Unfortunately, as I've already mentioned, no-one knows what those steps actually are 100%...it's probably lots of minute changes that tip the balance, including many signals from the baby and placenta (the placenta starts to go 'off' when it can't cope with the demands of feeding a baby anymore, and kicks out loads of things called cytokines), and many signals from your own brain and body.

In short, I'd try some sex. I'd also keep poking your belly until the baby gets bored and wants to get out to escape your nagging. At least it'll feel like you're doing something.

Well, I now have a 'proper' name for little Lulu; and it just popped into my head while I was walking out of the antenatal class so I think that little un chose it.

So we are all set.

I had a lovely afternoon nap and have just been to a double viewing at the cinema to watch a scary film, thinking that might jiggy things along.

I'm now going to go and try Babychickens idea :hihi::love:

Now where is that husband of mine?

Night all x

Babies only come when they are ready, none of the old wives tales are proven to work. I've been induced twice and the only thing I will say is they are hard, fast labours.

Ask for pain meds as soon as you feel you want them, don't hold out like I did, by the time I got them it was too late, both times

Castor oil is not advisable because it has a higher risk of the baby pooing inside you, which is REALLY bad news.

If lulu is the wrong way, I've heard a lot of good things about acupuncture and acupressure, if mini peach is the wrong way round on the scan on 6th May I'm going to have a go, see if it works.

As Peaches says, baby will come when she's ready. I found the last few weeks sooo frustrating but it was nice when labour started (at 41 weeks+5) and I knew my little one had come at the time that was right. It's worth bearing in mind that in France they calculate a human gestation as being 42 weeks long, not 40 as in the UK, so the French don't think about inducing routinely before this time.

The problem is she isn't going to come out when she is ready, cos they are inducing her. I just want to go into natural labour before they get their hands on me :hihi:

Its highly unlikely you'll get her to come out of her own accord before then, just hump lots and keep your fingers crossed.

Well, I am not sure which part of this worked for us but we had stuffed peppers for tea (my parents are vegitarian) and were so hungry when we left that we called at the chippy for a 'top up'. We had just sat down with the chips when I realised that I had not got the tomato sauce. Went to get it and my waters broke. I never did get to eat the chips !!

Good luck with the eviction. xxxx

I attempting everything. Charlie didn't come until 11 days later and that was from been induced.

But Rach, BELIEVE ME! When people say, just sit and wait for your baby to come, it'll come one day. Listen to it, because your life change's (Alot!) and there's no time for nothing. I don't understand why I wanted Charlie out with!

Normally I'd agree with you, but OK has been having contractions for more than 4 weeks now - and not just Braxton Hicks or the occasional twinge, she had 20 hours of never more than 15 minutes apart last Monday (and has been dilated to varying degrees over that time). I think Lulu really wants out! :)

Just spend the time getting frisky. With a lot of attention to the nipples apparently. It will be the last thing on your minds for a while after, so make the most of the time to yourselves. :D

Operation Get Lulu out now has a deadline of before the 13th, as that is our date for being induced.

So jiggy jiggy jiggy.

The scan did show that she is in the right position though, so fingers crossed x

My second was 11 days late, but started the night before I was due to have my first sweep. I wasn't too fussed about getting her out- it was everyone else's impatience that I wanted to hide away from I felt like they were saying "what are you messing about at?!" Anyway, the evening before labour started in the middle of the night, I'd resigned myself to being induced again and drank a big glass of wine and had a curry. I think it was the wine if anything that did it because I eat loads of curry!

I'm having trouble here relating all this jiggy jiggy talk to the sweet professional laydee who I sat talking to in her office at school... :(

Anyway, I can't say what we did to induce Daughter's and Son's births as Daughter is lurking... but let's just say it worked :hihi:
