I have noticed a few adverts around lately about the number you can phone to report what they call anti-social behavior (ie crime). It sounds a good idea in principle but how many people use it in practice? I don't know the answer it may be well used or very underused.

Also, is it always the best way of reporting a crime. For example, if you saw someone pushing drugs in a nightclub would it not be better to approach a member of staff and ask to speak to the manager? There may be other similar examples.

What do people think?

We've used it to report flytipping & grafitti near to our lovely house in Fir Vale (Hinde House Lane/Page Hall Rd way) but after a three week wait have seen no change! I think a few bread trays may have moved but that's it - it's still a right disgrace.

What's the point in promoting these things and promising it'll make a difference when it doesn't? i tried to call to see what was going on but couldn't get thru to the sheffield centre - the national centre gave me the number for it but no one ever answered!

is it a pretend phone number so it looks as though the council is doing something when in fact they're not?

any positive stories about this number???

Kx

I have also used the (not so) Hot Line. Part of the campaign says that they will keep you informed and promote that someone in your area has made a difference. Nothing seems to have happened at all.

If the police had to stake out drug dealers etc then fair enough but for fly tipping? Just rubbish.

Like many thing it’s the lack of information that really gets you. If you actually knew that the council were taking steps to get this sorted then the phone line (along with other methods of reporting) should be a good thing!

Local action can make a difference.
