Just wanted to know what search engine people used more often, I use google but can openly admit I have never ever used another search engine...don't know why, but I have google set as my homepage so there really isn't any need...

Anyway, just wanted to know if i'm using the best one or not...

"I can see there is a lot of people that are viewing this thread but not voting, c'mon ppl that's a bit ignorant innit...it's like walking in my house, makin yourself a cuppa and walkin back out without sayin hi..."

I took the effort to post this lot cos I am genuinly interested, please just take an xtra few seconds to vote...

Hiya,

I've been a Google fan for ages, but I think that it's equally important to know how to get the best out of the Search Engine you use.

Things like phrasing your query, choice of keywords, etc.

i used to use yahoo years ago but it was powered by google so i thought whats the point!.

msn and lycos are horrible...i never seemed to find anything i wanted on them.

Aaaaaahhhh, you learn something new everyday, google is yahoo's mummy....is it really?
Well there's some handy information, narrows down the point in migrating...seems to me google is a pretty handy and quite popular little search engine eh...

Google > All the others.

It has never failed me yet, even searching for really obscure stuff...

i use google, very rarely use msn, cos i think its got worse, never used lycos, tended to use yahoo quite frequently at one time, but imo, google's the best engine.

actually it's only recently that yahoo has started using google's search facilities, and even now they produce slightly different results because yahoo also has its own database of sites :)

personally I use yahoo, google and then if I'm still scratching my head, I open up Copernic Agent which searches about 10 different engines for you, then compiles them into a list of best match according to their rankings on the different sites ;) it's a very good program!

I tend to use google when I want a search but you have to know how to put together a boolean query or you will drown in dross! The problem is that there is just so much out there now and because current search engine work by indexing terms rather than concepts - now when we get semantic search engines then things will get interesting!

I use http://search.msn.com for my searches.
I find it a hell of a lot more accurate than google for finding what I want.

I usually use www.excite.com

It searches a few other sites including google.

99.9% of the time I use Google but years ago used to use a mixture of Yahoo, Lycos, Altavista, HotBot and others as none of them were particularly good and you needed to check them all for decent matches.

DMOZ or Google are my SEs of choice.

Never used MSNsearch, Lycos et al (in fact, I don't even allow Microsoft to spider our domains).

Then again, Google uses the data from DMOZ for it's web directory;).
