The other night there was a generator-type noise going off for a few hours.
It's not the first time I've heard it, it can be heard on clear nights.
Anyone else noticed it, or know what it is?!
I'm on the Scowerdons estate, near the bottom of Dyke Vale.

Well seen as you live that end of Hackenthorpe I'm guessing its not the annoying noise's we have to put up with from Penine foods and the other stuff behind Drakehouse retail park :? can't really think of anything round your end that would be making a noise...

unless maybe they was doing some overnight work on those new houses their building not far from the bottom of Dyke Vale?

Hmm... the food factory is a bit away so initially I wouldn't have thought it was that either, but then again, the horrible smell does reach here at times, and we can hear trains from Woodhouse sometimes, so the distance is probably nothing.

Good point about the new houses down the road, but we've been able to hear this noise for a couple of years....

I was wondering if it might be the factory on Stone Lane - god knows what it does or if they do work over night...

I live around the bottom of Birley Spa Lane, that smell reaches us all the time, I swear there should be laws in place for smell polution! they have laws for noise polution!

the factory on Stone Lane is a plastics recycling plant I think? :?

Exactly what we say - it's horrible passing it.
And it's ridiculous that the smell reaches all the way over here.

Something like that. And it always seems to be on fire.

its not that bad normally, its just if they're making curries or whatever they make, its like the worst smelling curry I've ever smelt though... think they make food for marks and spencer or something? :? but seriously, I've been tempted for a while to find out if we can legally force them to do something about the smell polution

Annoying noises in Hackenthorpe...

Bloody chavs speeding about in their cars up and down my normally quiet road at night and also frequent police sirens... GRRRR
