:help: :help: :help:
BobDaBuilder 25-03-2005, 13:13 Absolutely no idea but you could always get a watch and set the time on your system clock...that way you know the time and nothing else matters....lol
its the time offset on the s-f home page thats set wrong i had the same problem go here to sort it out Home > Your Options > Edit Options, then set the time offset to gmt
there ya go sorted
x_LoUiSe_x 30-03-2005, 10:46 sorry pj66 but thats not the problem!
im now 9 hours behind after the clocks went forward at the weekend.
all times are set correctly, on my computer and on the forum. its just in that room!
neother suggestions?:help:
cgksheff 30-03-2005, 10:52 I've just looked and the chat room time is based upon my own system clock on my computer.
I'm sure that is where you should be looking.
x_LoUiSe_x 30-03-2005, 10:57 thats set ok too, infact it even updated its self the other day when the clocks went forward!
other suggestions?
cgksheff 30-03-2005, 11:03 Just an outside possibility. I'm thinking round all basics.
Is your windows clock correct because of being set to a different timezone.
i.e. your system clock is wrong but because windows is set to Taipei (or somewhere) Time Zone, then your clock looks correct.
x_LoUiSe_x 30-03-2005, 11:43 right, ok, how do i check that then?
x_LoUiSe_x 30-03-2005, 11:48 at the mo its set too........(my computer)
(GMT) Greenwich Mean Time: Dublin, London, Edinbrough, Lisbon
seems right to me
and on here its set too......
(GMT) Western Europe Time, London, Lisbon, Casablanca, Monrovia
hmm........
im still puzzled!
cgksheff 30-03-2005, 11:53 I assume that you can see a digital clock in the task bar at the bottom tight of your screen.
Double click on it and a panel should pop up titled "Date & Time Properties".
Click on the Tab labelled "Time Zone".
You will see a map of the world and just above it is a selection box for the Time Zone.
It should say GMT Greenwich Mean Time. (If it does then this is NOT the cause of your problem)
If it doesn't, click on the tick at the side of the box and a selection list will appear.
Select GMT and then "Apply" and you will see your clock change.
x_LoUiSe_x 30-03-2005, 12:21 its all set right
I had the same problem for ages, except it was only an hour wrong for me. In the end it solved itself, but I've still no idea what caused it.
x_LoUiSe_x 30-03-2005, 13:40 it dont really bother me its just a lil annoying! i cant see nething thats causing it so i'll just have to put up with it, maybe it'll sort itself out, im sure it was ok before :P
x_LoUiSe_x 01-04-2005, 21:05 i tried that the other day and my email got rejected saying it was spam???? its was a perfectly normal email sent from outlook express under a tiscali email ad????
and ive tried pm'ing and posting but still no mod has helped me!
please take a look at the thread i started to ask about my problem and get back to me.
http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33701
the problem is about the time in the live chat room, for me (and seems to be only me) its 9 hours behind (was 8 before the clocks went forward the other week). and before i get told to check my time settings ive done this about 100 times now and on both my computer and on the forum its set to GMT and all times are displayed correctly on my computer and on the forum its self, the only problem is with the live chat room.
help me please!!!!! its really buggin me!

evildrneil 01-04-2005, 21:18 I don't actually work with JAVA so I could be wrong here but I'm fairly sure that the time in the chatroom will be picked up either directly from your system setting or via your JAVA virtual machine. How to change it is another question - I'm afraid I can't help you there but my best guess is that it requires some fiddling with the JVM settings...
The chatroom picks up it's time from your local PC's Windows clock.
I think EDN is correct in his assumption that the problem lies in how the Java VM is set up. It's ages since I've looked but I think there are some configuration settings about Time Zones and such around the Java Virtual Machine that runs Java programs.
If I get teh time this weekend I'll see what I can find. Educational for me!
